Default Update with GP

Bottom line, it didn't go well and I will continue my search for a new one.

He kept fixing on how I needed a mammogram and glossing over the stomach
issues and the fact that my Endo. wanted him to do a gallbladder check.
Three times I had to remind him of the gallbladder and also remind him that
I am not due for another mammogram until Feb. He still persisted in
demanding that I schedule one right away even though I told him the hospital
where I go can get me in in 3 days or less. He asked about an EKG,
apparently forgetting that he had given me one the last time I was in and
acted like I was crazy when I told him he had done one. Asked about a chest
X-Ray and acted like he didn't believe me when I told him that I'd never had
one as an adult. Said I really needed to have that done. But didn't say
why. Gave me a lab slip for the hospital of my choice to get that done.
Had a blood drawn done. He seems to be focused on my cholesterol and
nothing else. I think he is annoyed that my cholesterol is fine because he
says this is abnormal for a diabetic.

And then he handed me a lab slip for the hospital in another city that I
said I could not get to. If it were a life or death matter, I suppose I
could force myself to drive there. But it isn't and I can't see why I can't
have this procedure done at a hospital I am familiar with and one that is
close enough to my parent's house that they could watch my daughter if need
be. He didn't explain the procedure. Just said it would take several
hours. This, only after I really pressed him for more info. Then said he
didn't know if this was even the right test!

So... I am going to see if I can go to my dad's gastroenterologist. When
my dad had gallbladder trouble, he was in the hospital I prefer and he
didn't leave there for 2 months. Had other medical problems. That wasn't
the only thing. Anyway... I am pretty sure they can do this test and if
they can't there is a place near there that can. I looked it up on the
Internet as soon as I came home because I refused to believe that this one
hospital was the only place that could do this test. Heh!

Meanwhile, I got sick during dinner last night. Took my daughter out to
eat. Had some diet Coke, green salad, one French fry and one bite of meat.
Then I knew I had to throw up and dashed to the bathroom. Don't know the
cause of this. Daughter and I have both been ill and at one point she felt
sick to her stomach. BG has been high for the past 3 days. Prior to that
it was fine.

It reads like a horror story. Are you sure he had your
report in front of him, and not another patient's?

I don't say that lightly. I once, as a new officer-in-charge
gave an airman I had never met before his annual report
interview based on the report given to me by his sergeant.
The shocked look on his face alerted me to check. The
Sergeant had accidentally given me the report on the worst
tech in the section instead of the best. We sorted it out,
but it was very embarrassing; a mistake I never repeated.

I'd be sending a rather more strongly worded version of your
post to an appropriate complaints organisation in your
country. You paid for that service and received neither
competent advice nor appropriate attention.

I hope the new problem is nothing serious.

Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.

Yep. And to make matters worse (for him) it was also easily accesible on
the computer screen in front of him! He was asking me what dosage my meds
were and the nurse had just typed in the changes on the screen mere feet
from where he was sitting. He just didn't bother to look. At anything!!!

Hehe.

I have no idea who I would complain to and as Drs. go (or at least the ones
I've seen) he has been rather innocuous. Ineffective but innocuous. I have
been misdiagnosed more times than I can tell you. I suspect I had diabetes
for several years before I was diagnosed. Drs. kept telling me there was
nothing wrong with me. It was all in my head. Just needed to lose a few
pounds. I was even sent to a pychiatrist. All the while I could only scoot
or crawl. Why? They failed to diagnose the moderate neuropathy in my feet
and legs and my venous insufficiency was misdiagnosed as psoriasis. All
those trips to the Dr. Meds I didn't need. I could go on and on. But I
won't. I've told the story here many times before.
>
> I hope the new problem is nothing serious.

It sounds to me like it would be. If you call gallbladder serious. I have
finally gotten to speak to my dad and gotten the name of his Dr. I will try
there tomorrow and am crossing my fingers that he takes my insurance. I
know he is good. My friend's mom used to go to him and she said he was
good. My main problem is finding a Dr. who WILL take my insurance. None of
the good ones seem to. Except for my Endo. He comes highly recommended. I
just wish he were closer to where I lived. An appointment there involves my
time for almost all of the school day. I leave no long after the school bus
arrives, see the Dr., do the labs and stuff, grab a quick lunch and hope I
make it back home again before the bus arrives to bring my daughter home!

To me, for a doctor, "Ineffective but innocuous" is a
contradiction in terms. An ineffective doctor is positively
dangerous.

Would you say the same about the mechanic who fixes your
brakes? And would you go back to him after the crash?

Sounds like a real peach of a guy...jeesh...I guess he doesn't realize that
if you go to early for your Mammo that Tri-care will refuse it. Gyn made an
appointment for me one time for a pap...I told them I didn't think it had
been a year....the girl told me it was time...we were on the phone. SO I
went in for my appointment...got my clothes off, lying on the table with the
sheet over me...and the nurse comes in and says it isn't time for your
pap...I raised holy Heck with those people. My PC now does all of my
Paps...she even did the Uterine biopsy I had to have a few months ago...she
is also great on watching all of my numbers and always calls me and
discusses the results of my tests with me..she may not be an Endo but she
takes diabetes very seriously She has talked about getting my gall
bladder out because when I was having Ultra sounds for the cyst on my ovary
they saw lots of stones...I've been putting it off because I don't get much
pain..so far, I do get nausea...but not sure if it is the gall bladder or
the Metformin
Is gallbladder surgery done as out patient surgery now? I was surprised when
my husband had his testicle removed that it was outpatient...it was cancer
by the way...but the one we were hoping for if he had to have cancer

I don't think he cares. He also does labs on me mere weeks after my Endo.
did the same labs.

Mine just tells me I am doing fine no matter what my A1c is. He is more
concerned about hypos than anything else. Grrrr... He's just fixated on my
cholesterol. He seems to want there to be a problem.

Hmmm... I don't think I have stones. But I don't know how they check for
them. They did an ultrasound on me a while back and didn't find anything
wrong.

My dad's was. But then he was pretty much housebound for a couple of weeks.
He couldn't carry anything or drive a car.

I'd call dangerous one who misdiagnoses you or fails to diagnose you.

So you've heard of my former mechanic? I've had brake failure I don't know
how many times. Older vehicles. Not the one I have now.

What do you call someone that graduates last in their
class from medical school ?

Doctor.

Find a new one, Julie.

Good Luck

both.

Initial diagnosis here only requires an ultrasound. Differential
diagnosis requires X-rays with and without contrast medium, unless
they have new ways of doing it now, I'd have thought most any hospital
would have suitable kit.

Sounds like food poisoning on top of everything else. Could you have
picked up a bug at the doctor's?

Jeez, you are NOT having a good time recently, my sympathies.

snipped for brevity.

Hi Julie,

I'm sorry this doc is such a loser. Apparently, he doesn't listen. When my
mom was going through menopause she was put on HRT for the hot flashes, then
had bleeding issues. Although, her primary doc was pretty sure that the
bleeding was due to the HRT, he sent her to a gynecologist just to be sure.
All the primary doc wanted checked was the bleeding issue. So the
gynecologist takes my mom's history and the minute he finds out that she'd
had chronic fatigue syndrome--whose symptoms had abated--he insisted that
she was depressed and tried to get her to take testosterone. No matter what
she said, he was bound and determined that she was depressed and needed
meds. ARRRGGGHHH!

He seems to be focused on my cholesterol and

This may be true for SOME diabetics, but I've never had a high cholesterol
level either.
