Default Update on husband OT

First, I must say that nobody told him he had cancer. Why he was going
around telling people this is beyond me. But I believed him when he said
it. Assumed the Dr. must have told him this. Grrr...

The surgeon said he removed a massive tumor from his kidney. The biggest
one he had ever seen. Said it had been there for years. Had a hard time
removing it because it was surrounded with tightly packed fat. Said he
won't know the prognosis until Monday. He may or may not need additional
surgery and this operation may or may not take care of the other problems he
has been having.

That's all I know!

Eek. No wonder he was crook. Fingers crossed that the tests show it is
benign.

Maybe he heard "tumor" & assumed it meant "cancer", if it wasn't directly
modified by "benign", and especially if the pathology report wasn't in.

If it is cancer, I hope you get a really good support group (for you) for
information, venting, & general support (just like here, but more focused on
kidney/cancer issues); at least then you can find out what you need to know,
questions to ask, what the issues are, tips for coping, etc. & even if he
won't listen you'll have the background info to deal with things better.

I hope all is going well with the recovery from surgery.

He said something like... What else could it be? Still... I wish I hadn't
told people it WAS cancer. I should just never repeat anything he says. He
gers so much stuff wrong.

That's what we're thinking. My mom said when she saw him this morning he
kept going on and on about how they got all the cancer. Right now he isn't
making a lot of sense but he's still on a lot of pain meds.

I think there is one at the hospital.

If the group at the hospital doesn't suit you (for any or no reason) there's
bound to be one online. Check the kidney association, the ACOR lists, and
Yahoo groups. There may also be non-hospital-connected kidney &/or cancer
groups in the area that you can look into; they may have online or
person-to-person phone network/contacts as well (I know my thyca group
does). All you need is to get one way into the "network" & you'll be able to
find other resources.
The hospital social worker should be able to get you a start on information.
Best wishes.

You were led to believe it was (and still might turn out to be) cancer. You
shared your concerns with us. I have no problem with that.

Take care.

Well, apparently he still thinks it was cancer. He was going on and on to
my mom about how "They got all the cancer...". We don't know why he thinks
that.
