Default vitamin B1

Hello,

I see there are suggestions that vitamin B1 may help avoid neuropathy &
retinopathy. Also that the normal blood test for B1 is not accurate. My
doctor says my B1 is ok, and that taking B1 tablets is pointless, as B1 is
not easily absorbed ?

Help & advice please ??

K

Taking a B complex or B 50 vitamin won't hurt you!

The microvascular complications that occur in diabetics mainly due to
high blood sugar levels are neuropathy, retinopathy, and nephropathy.

Benfotiamine is a derivative of B1.

Skimming that quickly I first read it as "diabetes + Brownies" <g>.

Well, you could point out to your doctor that there are two forms of
B1, one of which (thiamine) is water soluble and is not easily
absorbed, the other of which (benfotiamine) is fat soluble and is...

I'm currently taking a 3-month trial of benfotiamine. Haven't noticed
any difference, which may well mean that I don't need to supplement.
