Default What next?

My pump has pooped out. No Prime messages. I've decided to go on the pin
for the weekend 'cause I have to work. The wheels are already in motion
for a replacement. I took my first shot of long acting insulin (UL,
Exp. Nov.06) in 3 1/2 years this morning.

Last night one of my molars self-destructed. I go to the dentist Monday.
I had another molar fall apart a month ago (appt. made in Jan.).

Grrrr.

Well, I'm back on the pump. They delivered it to my pharmacy (which is
in the store where I work) before lunch yesterday. It's brand spanking
new. I'm happy with the service, I was apprehensive because Animas was
taken over by J & J the first of this year.

Monday for the teeth. No pain, so I'm fortunate, but the annoyance
factor is high. Soft food for the weekend.

My warranty expires next Feb., so I'm going to see if I can get a
warranty extention for this unit to save my insurance co. a few bucks.
I've got phone calls to make Monday.

It should be a new warranty shouldn't it? It's the product that has a
guarantee from new. If it had to be replaced with a new item then you should
get a full warranty as of yesterday.

That doesn't seem to be the case, but I have to find out. Pumps are
incredibly sophisticated pieces of electronics so operating without a
valid warranty is a risk I'm not prepared to take if I can at all avoid
it. When I was battling my insurance company for coverage I was told I
was covered at 80%, I was covered as a once in a lifetime purchase, then
I wasn't covered at all, then I was covered 100% (after complaining to
HR at hub's workplace). I don't know if or how the insurance co. will
handle a request for a replacement, but now's the time to get the ball
rolling.

My original purchase was 3 1/2 years ago and that's the only time I've
gotten a warranty card to fill out. I had no problems with the IR1000
and it was replaced by the IR1200 when it became available in Canada
some 11 months later as per the purchase agreement. I had 2 screen
failures (the common problem with the IR1200) and was given a rebuild
then a few months later a new pump. That one lasted ~19 months until
last week. Replacements were very prompt, under 8 hours, as little as 3
1/2 hours.

For all I know, Animas could say screw you and pay the $6500 next Jan.,
but that would leave me feeling they didn't stand behind their product.
Since the IR1200+ and the IR1250 aren't yet available in Canada there's
no upgrade issues at the moment. That's a big plus.

There's always Minimed, or Deltec, or even the Omnipod, though I don't
know if it's available in Canada. Minimed for sure would be willing to
provide a significant price reduction to switch. We'll have to see.

I hope it works out for you then Vicki. Can be stressful wondering if you
might have to fork out big bucks in the near future.
