Default Where can I find people to talk to about living with diabetes?

Question:
Where can I find people to talk to about living with diabetes? My
family doesn't seem to get it.

Answer:
Some hospitals offer educational programs and support groups for
people who have diabetes. You could ask a family member to join you at
a class or meeting, if you think that would be helpful.

In some areas, the American Diabetes Association sponsors similar
activities. Call 800-DIABETES (342-2383) and ask them what they offer
and where programs are held. Your health care provider may also be
able to put you in touch with other people who have diabetes.

You might also try the Internet for a support group. The ADA Web site,
diabetes.org/local, is a good place to start. Be aware that what other
people say on the Internet ranges from brilliant to bunk, so be sure
to check out anything you see online with someone you trust before
giving it a shot yourself.

The ADA also publishes a wide variety of materials to help you,
including Diabetes Forecast, our monthyl magazine, and a variety of
tips books for living better with diabetes.

Good point Kurt.

It's a scientific fact that for every diabetic there are a half a dozen
idiots - I meet my quota most days - how about you?

Best advice I've seen from that source for a while. I'm a
little surprised that they use a term like "someone you
trust" rather than "a medical professional" which would be
my minor amendment to that.

I trust my Mum. I'm not sure that discussing the advice I
receive on the net with her is going to help me a lot
though:-)
