| | | Why McDonalds
I use them when I could, because they were cheap.
As far as the fast food joints I preferred Wendy's because the
founder was known as a good person that did a lot of good.
I preferred Roy Rodgers because my daughter , as a college
student worked there and I know the standards they enforced
on the franchises.
I am a diabetic and they all serve more that I can safely eat
so I rarely go there. Really that applies to all restaurants.
I found the complications make going there unwise.

But...it's your personal responsibility to eat reasonable portions, no
matter how much more *they* serve. No law says you have to eat it all,
nothing says you have to order fries and a shake, or supersize it,
nothing says you have to eat all of the bun...etc., etc., etc. It pays
to make smart choices, no matter where you eat. I hope you're doing
well today Guy.

I go there once a week when I visit friends. This week I had a Premium
Crispy Chicken Ranch BLT, a medium French fry and a diet cola. I took it
with 22 units of Novolog insulin to prevent spikes and tested 131 about 2
hours later. Viva la Novolog.
McDonalds does have some good lower carb salads, just read the nutritional
information. |

I do not have any appreciable insulin resistance, so 26 units of
"faster" insulin at once would guarantee me a 911 run.
Diabetics are so different. The posts here will allow many of us to

I'm really happy to hear that your burn is healing because I'm sure it
has been quite nasty and painful. I think you're smart to have that
tree trimmed back. I don't live in hurricane country, but during some
strong wind storms in my area in the past year, there have a been a
lot of trees falling and damaging houses. Take care Guy, and be well.

I missed breakfast this morning due to an appt, by the time I picked up my
two baby grand children to mind while their mum is at work it was nearly
noon. I bought the older grandchild a nuggets happy meal with a diet coke
(for me). I chose just a burger, not a meal, for myself. A McAfrica - a
burger out for the leadup to the Olympic games. Bun wasn't real big, meat
wasn't greasy, there was plenty of lettuce and tomato and a sauce that
reminded me of burritos... I am sure the bun will do a little damage but I
still think it was a good choice overall. Normally I get a chicken salad but
I was starving and wanted to eat in the car
Being a temporary burger there was no nutritional guide on the box but it is
available on the website. I am not going to bother looking at it, running
after the grandkids all afternoon while also catching up on household chores
will wear it off anyway |

It varies. I am so prone to hypos that I post eat test at the
appropriate time and inject the amount to bring me back to apx. 100.
911 runs are very expensive and a lot of hassle.
Wish I did not have to do this but experience says
this is the way for me. >Meals are very small.
In the future, I hope my absorption of glucose becomes
more predictable if I can eliminate another problem.

Andy, some of us have suffered much from diabetes. We want these
groups to do a bit to help other avoid a lot of the misery. They do
not do that, if the groups are used for personal satisfaction by some
one trying to be cute. Humor is very OK if well done. Personal
attacks on any poster.is very poor conduct unless the person is
selling---- A spammer.
First, know the person before we get cute with them.
Taking an adversary attitude must be based on issues, not the person.

McDonalds is pretty cheap. My main reason for choosing them though is
cleanliness. Out of all the fast food restaurants I know of, they are
the cleanest. You'd be surprised how dirty some of these other places
are. Everything from employees not washing hands to using dirty food
preparation items... |

What I want to know is, what happened to Nando's?
I was never fond of fast food but we used to have a Nando's next the
station, they did chicken legs or breasts dipped in hot sauce and
grilled with chips (fries) less cardboardy than the average, my ex
used to pick up from them on the way home sometimes and it was
comparatively healthy, no added crap (of course in those days I didn't
realise what the fries were doing to me)
The manager reckoned they were trying to roll out franchises across
the country but I've seldom seen or heard of them since. |

We have one less than a kilometer from where I live. The first meal I ate in
Australia was at a Nando's as it was about the only place open in the CBD
the evening I arrived in Melbourne.

I feel even better about McDonalds since my son started working there. He
said cleanliness is a huge priority and the managers keep the others on
their toes in that regard. They are also very strict about keeping to the
times that food must be out of the freezer before use. They double check
each other. |

There is one about 20 minutes from me but closes when the "mall" closes.
They also do gournet type pies etc here. My daughter used to buy their
chicken sometimes but it is horribly expensive. |

LOL Jan, I had to look that one up on Google, but it certainly
applies. :-)

Viva la Novolog?
I suppose the difference between us is that I would not have
found 131 at 2 hours OK. YMMV applies again.

Hmmm. Where have I read that before?
Oh, here it is: http://www.diabetesincontrol.com/iss...lnumbers.shtml
"The Laws of Small Numbers
The Laws of Small Numbers – Part 1
Richard K. Bernstein, M.D., F.A.C.E., F.A.C.N., C.W.S
From Diabetes Solution New & Revised - Chapter 7
"Big inputs make big mistakes; small inputs make small
mistakes.”
That is the first thing my friend Kanji Ishikawa says to
himself each morning on arising. It is his mantra, the
single most important thing he knows about diabetes.
Kanji is the oldest surviving type 1 diabetic in Japan
(he is, by the way, younger than I, but afflicted with
numerous long-term diabetic complications because of many
years of uncontrolled blood sugars). Many biological and
mechanical systems respond in a predictable way to small
inputs but in a chaotic and considerably less predictable
way to large inputs. Consider for a moment traffic. Put a
small number of automobiles on a given stretch of highway
and traffic acts in a predictable fashion: cars can maintain
speed, enter and merge into open spaces, and exit with a
minimum of danger. There’s room for error. Double the number
of cars and the risks don’t just double, they increase
geometrically. Triple or quadruple the number of cars and
the unpredictability of a safe trip increases exponentially.
The name of the game for the diabetic in achieving blood
sugar normalization is predictability. It’s very difficult
to use medications safely unless you can predict the effect
they’ll have. Nor can you normalize blood sugar unless you
can predict the effects of what you’re eating. If you can’t
accurately predict your blood sugar levels, then you can’t
accurately predict your needs for insulin or oral blood
sugar–lowering agents. If the kinds of foods you’re eating
give you consistently unpredictable blood sugar levels, then
it will be impossible to normalize blood sugars."
Read on at the link.
