Hi Fris,
Thank you for your genuine humanity...
If you are tired, sleepy, etc., it might be a good idea to get some
rest. Someday, maybe I shall tell you what it is like to be notified
that your much beloved child is an "attempted suicide" in intensive
care...
I really do very much understand.

Glad I could help.
That's what we're here for.

I don't know Will, would any family member really appreciate you
telling a personal story like that about them on Usenet? I know nobody
in my family would appreciate it. Just sayinizall.

Maybe not... on the other hand, enough detail can be left out, so that
only the basic facts of the situation come out, hopefully in a way
that may benefit someone else.

True, but I was just saying that because you are a very high profile
person, and it would be easy for everyone to know who you're talking
about. :-)

Well, you raise a good point, Cheri... I was not thinking of telling the
whole story, though, only enough in a thoughtful and sensitive way that
might benefit someone else who may be experiencing a similar difficulty....
There are lots of things of which responsible parents need to be aware in
raising children, as I am sure you know.
Many people just do not realize how mental health issues can arise to shake
a person to his/her very foundations. Afterwards, following a tragedy,
people often look back and realize that there were warning signs....

All true Will, all true.

telling it from the viewpoint of yourself and how you lived it.
It can be just as poignant and tell a story with a message.
Lord knows, I've been in emergency wards to often enough ...
and lived through the stress of waiting, hoping and going through
the recent past to see how I could have diverted the course of history ...

Those who have survived their own attempt at suicide and have turned
their life around, won't mind it all. It could save someone's life.

True, it could save somebody elses life, but it's up to them whether
they choose to tell the story or not, not somebody else. Big
difference IMO. Only the person involved would know whether they mind
or not.

| | | Re: To Will, Jeff, and Cheri, et. al. Unless you have such a relationship with that person, an understanding,
agreement, whatever ,of where the boundaries lay. Ours has been a "family"
situation. There was too much "hiding" for too many years that has hurt too
many people by keeping secrets. We just found out last week from a good
friend of our daughter, that daughter had another brother other than our son
in MS. She never knew of Robert (killed) until talking with us while here
(she is the rep for the company that provided my bed).
Each situation is unique to those individuals involved. Guess we have just
lived in such a "fish bowl" existence for so many years that it does not
seem out of the ordinary. I think people living in rural communities tend
to share the more intimate parts of their lives than those in urban/suburban
areas.
