Default You all sound so kind

We have learned so much from all of you and I read each and every post. I am
Grace's husband. I have an AVM, thats an arterial venus malfuction and have
been taking 400 milligrams of dilantin a day for the last twenty years and
its been that long since I have had a drink. Me and Grace are getting older
and we both understand the importance of taking care of each other. Its a
little overwhelming but thanks to all of you we are feeling much better
about her situation.

Most, if not all of us, have been overwhelmed too, some of us were recently!

Charlie, I'm so glad that what you've read here and made you both feel
more hopeful and better about Grace's situation. Type 2 DM can be
managed and improved dramatically for most of us if we keep our bodies
moving (and learning to lift weights helps at any age!) and eat foods
that don't make our blood glucose rise too fast or too high. That's why
so many of us have been emphasizing the importance of getting a meter.
They can usually be had for free, and you should ask your doctor if s/he
has one to give you. It's the single most important tool you can use to
learn to manage DM.

G'day G'day Charlie,

It is great to see someone who can appreciate kindness posting. We
all have different talents, areas where we shine. Come to think of it
kindness goes a long way when people are newly diagnosed or going
through a bad experience. Hang about we need people like you,

Best wishes,

Thank you. What a nice thing to say. Ya know Grace and I have been togeather
36 years now and we have loved each other soooo much. I know the person
Grace is and I know she will do well. Just about everyone in her family has
dialbetes. We both know it was only a matter of time. I became pretty good
friends with one of her uncles and one time when I went to visit him he was
reading a paper with a telescope his eyes were so bad but he had a six pack
of beer in the frig. Anyway when you are use to protecting someone for as
long as I have been protecting Grace I want nothing to go wrong. But we both
know about it. One of her cousins on chrismas eve last year died from a
diebetic coma. What a time to find her huh? On christmas eve. I have to
believe she just didn't take care of herself

Charlie, I was told that there are 3 types of diabetics - Type 1, Type 2 and
the Type 3s who look after the other two. Life is much better for a diabetic
if their T3 is as caring as you are of Grace - you two will do fine!

Don't forget that the only stupid question is the one you didn't ask, and
that we really don't mind if you need to vent either.

Nicky.

Charlie, some diabetics are simply NOT taught HOW
to take care of themselves.... my neighbour across
the street has been told to test his bg ONCE a day
in the morning, and that a level of 14 to 15 (252
to 270) is a GOOD LEVEL ! ! ! ! This is such a
tragedy for him........ and he went into CHF this
summer........gee....... i wonder why? sigh

your best protection against a diabetic coma is to
learn as much as you can about Grace's diabetes!
because all of us are different in what we can eat
and how foods affect us........

it's great to see you being proactive and starting
to learn as much as possible for Grace........ i
think you'll do just fine :-)

ps..... was her cousin on insulin? is it possible
she had a hypoglycemic attack that put her into a
coma? or was it definitely high blood glucose that
caused the coma?

her cousin wouln't go to the doctors and didn't take any medicine. She was
