Default 26.2 miles!

Yay! I did it! Just wanted to make sure I could do it once before doing the
actual London Marathon itself and on a lovely crisp Autumn morning I did my
whole marathon in 4 hours, 17 minutes and 42 seconds! A bit sore and
blistered but very chuffed!!! )

Awesome! FWIW, a friend of mine ran the London a few years ago. He stopped
into a refreshment tent, and when he left, they pushed him out the wrong
outlet of the tent, so he ended up running a stretch he had already run
before -- running more than a marathon, in the end. A great story, but not
an experience he would recommend to others :-)

My goal is only to be able to walk that far... great progress! Good
luck on the marathon and your fund raising effort for St John
Ambulance.

Congrats on your success. You're an inspiration!

BTW, are you following any sort of marathon training plan?

Thanks Chris! Not till April 22 2007 but today was about the last time I
could "go long" without messing up my training plan!

It looks like I have to subscribe to look at it. I assume the plan doesn't
call for a 26-miler 24 weeks out. ;-). I guess you've answered the "can I
do it" question. I always felt that that was part of the thrill of running
my first marathon. My guess is that if you can run 4:17 without marathon
specific training, you should finish the marathon in well under 4:00.

Makes sense. I had the impression that one didn't normally do that
long a run close to the time of the actual race. But I don't know a
lot about training for marathons.

Typically the long runs are done every 1 or 2 weeks from 18 to 3 weeks away
from marathon day. Very few plans call for running marathon distance as
part of your training for a marathon. It takes too long to recover. The
only time I ran more than 26 miles in training was when I was preparing for
a 50-mile trail race.

Yup, my plan goes up to 22 5 weeks before the race. But I just wanted to
know for sure I could do it. I've done 24 before and 19 quite a lot but I
just needed my head set right.
