i have decided to start keeping my food journal here instead of in a
"book like journal" as i have during previous health quests. it does
get a little tricky when going back and veiwing particular days in that
i work midnight shifts at my hotel job and this is just one more area of
my life that is affected.
i should probably just ignore the actual time and go by when i wake up
until when i go to bed. so my day starts on one day and goes until the
next. tricky.
8*13*7
8:30 PM: Awake
12:30AM: 2 small peanut butter cup, 1 small caramel cup: 190 Calories
2:30AM: 1/2 portion stir fried veggies and 1/4 cup fried rice
Salad: greens, cheese:2ish OU, almonds:1/8 C, cucs,
tomatoes:6 grape, mushrooms and homemade raspberry balsamic vinagerette
(sugar free rasp. jam used.)
4:40AM: ice cream cone: 340 Calories..oh my god, i dont think i should
eat these suckers again, and fro yo tastes better too!

Good start. I'd go by when I wake up and go to bed as a day. Your eating
still needs work though! Where's your protein? Peanut butter cups for
breakfast? Ice cream? You'll be famished and under-nourished on this diet,
no doubt contributing to your excessive junk food eating. Try getting more
protein and healthy fats, and filling higher fiber carbs. |

What she said. You're right to go by the times you're awake. Don't
worry about the traditional breakfast-lunch-dinner thing; just eat
every 3-4 hours throughout the day. But you need to work on eating
more nutritious meals. Ideally, each meal should include protein,
healthy fats (nuts, nut butter, olive oil, etc.), and healthy carbs
(whole grains, fruits, veggies). While you may not be perfect, I know
you can do better than making a meal of candy or ice cream :-). For
the day you describe, it's not the amount of calories that's the
problem; it's the lack of nutritious food.

chris i can definatly agree with you on the point of junkfood. it is a
horrible vice that i do hope to one day soon keep in complete
moderation and that is one of contributing factors as to why i signed
up for this website banter group. i need people telling me unabashed
that i should NOT be eating that sort of crap. so thank you. As for the
protein, or apparent lack there of:well, i can see how it doesnt look
like i get much proiten throughout the day but i usally get a fair
amount, although i'm sure i could use more. i went back and calculated
(for myself mostly, i have to be honest, i don't count my protein
intake as i probably should being that i am vegetarian. there is a huge
misconception out there that vegetarians and vegans are always lacking
in proper protein intake, not that i'm insinuating you are i 'm just
saying... most days i do eat a lot of ruffage and tofu type product so
i didn't think i really needed too keep a running tally. but here goes
anyway.
some of this is give or take because it was home-made:
1/2 portion stirfry and fried rice: 9 gr
Salad; greens:2gr, mushroom:2gr, broc:3gr, cucs:.5gr, tom:2gr,
almonds: 3g(1/2 portion), cheese:7gr,
*also when i got home from work at 7am i ate my favorite snack of:
1 slice whole grain bread with fiber:6gr
2tbsp smuckers natural peanut butter: 8gr
1tpsp smuckers strawberry preserves
BUT the best part was>>> i did pilates before i went to bed!
that brought my protein intake to, wait i gotta add it up....like uhhhh
42, no 45 grams...which i think is pretty good.

45g of protein may be perfectly adequate for you, but I tend to eat closer
to 100g. Now, I'm doing more endurance type exercise, but I definitely have
always felt more satisfied with higher levels of protein and healthy fats.
Do cukes really have that much protein? |

I also get closer to 100, but I don't think 45 is inadequate for good
health -- just not what I prefer. Re the cukes -- I was puzzled too,
until I realized that it said ".5" and not "5".
