And you know this happened how? Some people have been obese since childhood
and are finally learning how to take control of things they didn't know were
going on whether through nature or nurture. That behavior should be
commended rather than having past mistakes rubbed in their faces regularly.

1- Some here, not me, were obese all their lives and turned it around...
which means, they didn't "lose control and got themselves fat" it was done
for them before they were old enough to know better.
2- You're missing the "support" part in alt.support.diet...
Lighten up Karen.. how about some humanity with your cereals in the morning?

Sure I was out of control, caught in a vicious cycle of poor food choices,
poor self-image, & low self-esteem. Food was always there when friends
weren't. Food doesn't judge, make fun of, tease, beat up, beat down. It took
a doctor with a good heart to lay it out to me point blank, no
sugar-coating - lose weight or die. That same doctor told me that the
surgery was my only option. I went to the orientation, read everything I
could on the internet about it, and ended up here asking questions. What
finally broke through was the simple fact that I was going to have to change
my lifestyle regardless. I could not continue on with what I had been doing
to myself. February 24th, 2004 I made the decision to change no matter what.
I've had many struggles, some downtimes, but through the support of friends
and family I have been able to accomplish what the doctor thought I could
not without surgery. He had even mentioned that in his 35 years of practice
he had never known anyone that was able to accomplish what I have.
Getting recognition for my efforts is just a springboard to be able to reach
out to other people and help them come to the crossroads in their lifestyle
to make a change for the better.
Thanks,
Matty (I weighed more than Jared from Subway)

I think that is great, Matty! A doctor told me the same thing--except it
was about my blood pressure, and losing weight was one of the steps in
getting it under control. That was May 12, 2006. I'm now 60 pounds lighter
and still losing. Seeing myself in a mirror, and going on 5K runs with my
daughter are my rewards. I'm am very happy you were recognized for your
tremendous accomplishment! | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
