Default Benefits of rice or almond milk over non-fat milk.

I use non-fat milk every day in cereal but i've been thinking of
changing over to rice or almond milk due to the sugar in non-fat
milk. Non-fat milk has 12 grams per cup. How much does rice and
almond milk have per cup? Also, are rice and almond milk healthier
than non-fat?

Thanks for the advice. What do you suggest, about three gallons per
day? That should more than take care of my fat intake.

Rice milk is pretty much sugar water. Even compared to other non dairy
milks, it lacks in a lot of ways. Almond milk is slightly better, and
raw milk is yummy. So is home-made almond milk, which we drink when
the raw isn't available. Also keep in mind that these alternative are
really Almond Juice, Rice Juice or Soy Juice.

Goat is closest in composition to human milk, and it's easier to
digest and absorb the nutrients.
Best of my knowledge milk substitutes are not a nutritional , I
personally hate cow milk, probably because I have been slaughtering
them, however, I love their meat :-)

Recipe for almond milk:
http://chetday.com/soymilk.htm (this is where I got the recipe)

1 1/2 cups of raw almonds, soaked in water overnight
4 cups of filtered or spring water
3-5 dates (optional)

Blend 1 ½ cups of raw almonds that have been soaked overnight in 4
cups of water. Blend with dates if you like your milk with a hint of
sweetness. Strain once to remove almond granules. The result is a
delicious, creamy milk that is free of harmful vegetable oil,
concentrated sweeteners, and the problems associated with cow's milk
and soy. It can be stored safely for 3-4 days in the refrigerator.

I'm not the OP, but I think almond milk tastes much better than either
soy or rice milk.

Personally, I try to avoid consuming too much dairy (which is not really
a problem for me since I've never been a milk drinker anyhow). I just
don't like the way it makes me feel. Nut milks are a great alternative.

To the OP: if you want to know how much sugar is in rice or almond milk,
go to the store and read the packages. Different brands are going to
contain different amounts.

I used to drink soy milk but a friend told me it may not be good for
men because it mimics estrogen. He said whey powder would be better
for men. I've heard good things about goats milk. Comments?

Cubit is a low carber who probably *would* put heavy cream on his cereal
.... if he were ever to eat such a thing, which I rather doubt.

Why not cow milk? And why would you take this "friend's" word?
Investigate for yourself and make up your own mind.

I like cows milk. I have been drinking it all my life. I just wanted
to try something different. I did do research on soy. I just didn't
take my friends word for it. Some sites said it may not be the best
for men and others said it would be fine. Sounds like a tossup.

Goat milk is very good. It's best to do your own research, cos of
people here will give you very bad advice, and also talk to your
doctor.

From: Alternative Medicine Angel
http://altmedangel.com/milkcomp.htm
Goat Milk vs Cow Milk

.. Nutrient content of goat milk is slightly less than cow milk but
goat milk is more digestible because the fat molecules are one-fifth
the size of those from cow milk -- making it easily tolerated by those
with compromised digestive systems.

· Seventy-two percent of the milk used throughout the world is from
goats. It is one-third richer than cows milk but more nourishing and
easier to digest.

· The flavor of goat milk is comparable to that of cow milk. Goat
milk has a milder taste.

· Goat milk has no cream separation because of smaller fat molecules.

· Goat milk contains pre-formed Vitamin A in the milk fat that allows
it to be readily available for use by the body.

· Goats milk contains a more highly-evolved cholesterol than cows
milk, making it more available for absorption to the brain and body.
(Cholesterol is essential to the health of the myelin sheaths "white
matter" of the nerves in the brain.)

· Goat milk is closer to human milk and is therefore easily accepted
especially by those young or frail.

· Goat milk has an alkaline reaction the same as mother's milk. Cow
milk has an acid reaction

· Goat milk does not form mucous (phlegm) and is therefore better
tolerated by asthmatics and those with allergies.

· Goat milk contains more chlorine, fluorine and silicon than any
other domestic livestock. Chlorine and fluorine are natural germicides
and fluorine assists in preventing diabetes.

· Goat milk contains 2% curd, which precipitates in the stomach. Cows
milk is 10% curd.

· Goats are naturally immune to diseases, such as tuberculosis, and
are used in third-world countries to actually cure tuberculosis
because of their inherent antibodies.

· Goats milk is tolerated by a compromised /damaged liver because of
the smaller fat molecules and it's naturally homogenized.

· Goats milk has the ability to "sweeten" the intestinal tract and
assist with constipation.

· Goats milk contains a higher evolved carotene (pro-Vitamin A).
Researchers have found this to have cancer preventing properties.

Soy has been show to reduce blood pressure
(http://jn.nutrition.org/cgi/content/abstract/132/7/1900) in men and
women. In addition, it stabililize blood glucose levels and may improve
colon health.

If you've tried a few brands and you don't like the way it tastes -- I
like VitaSoy and Silk but hate WestSoy and I understand that YMMV --
that's another story.

I also enjoy Almond Breeze from time to time. Almond milk may be offer
some of the same health benefits of whole almonds but I haven't seen any
research on it.

Rice milk is mostly carbs.

What specifically are you concerned about? I don't think that men in
countries that regularly consume large (compared to the US population)
quantities of soy have problems.

Actually I have milked a goat. Several goats. multiple times. They
didn't mind at all anymore than cows do. Dairy goats have been bred for
milking. Now if it was Mountain Goat cheese....

I've had soy milk many times, but just recently heard it may not be
the best for men. That's why i decided to check it out. Whenever it
pertains to health, it's best to do some research. My dad died of a
heart attack at 41 and my brother just had prostate cancer surgery, so
perhaps i do have some concern. I'm not saying soy is bad. I just want
to make intelligent choices.Plus i'm going to enroll in the personal
trainer/ fitness program at my local college. I've always had an
interest in keeping in shape due to my family's health history. I'm
going to Trader Joe's tomorrow and read some soy, almond milk labels.
My favorite place!
