The answer is that women are judged by their beauty more than men. Men
tend to be judged by their brains. I am not saying it is right, but it
is still a prevalent opinion. dkw

The article didn't mention anything about anyone being judged for their
beauty, etc. The study indicated women were more likely to have
stronger beliefs related to nutrition. I know this certainly holds
true between many of my older cycling friends. At the rest areas on
longer bike rides the women tend to choose fruit, nuts and other
healthy items but the men grab those cookies. The same holds true on
our regular breakfast ride. The women usually order veggie omelets and
the men order eggs, hash, toast with butter and jelly. Some even top
it off with a donut or some other type of breakfast pastry. Guess who
needs to lose the most weight in that group<g>

There was another study that said similar things for older men and women
(post college age). In general, men who are overweight are less likely to
think of themselves as overweight than women who are overweight. I do think
that the whole emphasis on a woman's looks & figure even at an early age
(middle school these days) does influence their awareness of nutrition at an
earlier age.

Yes, and something else I read. If you search "ideal weight" there is
one site that offers several versions of ideal weight from a medical
P.O.V. and personal opinion. Apparently most men who are borderline
overweight do not consider themselves overweight, but women do, so that
women just picture themselves heavier than men picture themselves. It's
probably all thanks to Barbie. dkw
