Default Day 4 and 5 pounds gone

250/245/200
August 21, 2006
Day 4 of 100 days. Five pounds gone.

I got on my balance beam scales this morning and saw that another
pound was gone. Therefore, on day 4 of my diet, 5 pounds are gone.

The pounds come off easily at first, especially as most of the weight
is water weight. But within several days and certainly within several
weeks, the weight will be more and more difficult to lose.

I am in a mode now where I’m not too tempted by foods, drinks, etc. We
are gong out tonight to have a birthday dinner with one of our
children. Exciting! And I will sure try to be good about it.

Tonight when I come back after the birthday dinner, I plan on walking,
but not as long as last night. Every other night maybe should perhaps
should be longer exercise. I think I will try that for a while.

My calorie goal today is about 1000 calories and I hope to be good
about reaching it.

We’re off to Toastmasters this morning, leaving at 6 am (in a minute).

I hope everything finds something that works and sticks to it until
they achieve their health goals!

Yours,

Caleb

Hey Caleb, congratulations on your attempt to eat in a healthy way.
This group used to be full of people like you but, alas not any more.
I don't even usually come here anymore People generally list their
foods eaten every day and then other people comment on that. I was a
bit shaken into good ways by doing that. Sometimes eating "healthy"
is very full of calories. I should probably start thinking about
doing this again. I wonder what ever happened to Chris, that
marvelous wine connoisseur and the bicycler who really lost a lot.
Caleb... its probably in your best interests not to weigh yourself
every day. You might get frustrated and cancel the who plan.

Let me tell you how I weigh myself. It works for me.

I have a balance beam scale and get on the scale every day, but I
never move the indicator higher (that is to the right). So, when I get
on the scale there is the chance I can move the indicator to the left
(lower) but never to a higher position. This helps preserve the
motivating aspects of getting on the scale and seeing that i have lost
another pound, while not allowing "demotivating" weights to bum me
out. For instance, if I eat a lot of roughage, drink a lot of water,
etc., then I don't have to worry about the scale disheartening me. I
know that if I keep on with what I'm doing, the indicator will HAVE to
go lower.

With the usual weighing practice, too much negative information can
intrude and it would be disheartening. Kind of like people with sleep
problems looking at the clock in the middle of the night -- DON'T
LOOK! That kind of information can make it difficult to return to
sleep! (Gee -- I only have three more hours to fall asleep, etc.)

Other kinds of bad information might be this: this kind of cake tastes
great! (If so, I don't want any near me.) Person X lost a whole lot of
weight following the umbrella diet (or whatever), allowing him/her to
eat only while holding an umbrella overhead. etc. etc.

My balance beam scale technique is also another reason to have a
slightly more restricted caloric approach - that is, so I can see the
scale weights changing regularly (although towards the end, it might
not change for a week or even more). Much of the early portion of a
diet is getting oneself in gear, getting organized, getting the
exercise routine in place, etc., etc. stopping the home delivery from
Subway (I don't have home delivery, but....)...

Anyway, thanks for your input! I sure rememeber some of those old
names myself and I wonder where they are and hope they're doing fine!

Yours,

Caleb
