| | | FitDay: Total Fat vs Calories from Fat I was entering a custom food: Trader's Joe's Pound Plus 72% Dark
Chocolate.
The product label says:
Calories: 200
Calories from Fat: 120
Total Fat: 16g
When I enter the Calories from Fat, FitDay calculates the Total Fat as
13g. If I change it to 16g as shown on the label, FitDay recalculates
the Calories from Fat as 144.
Who is correct?

I don't know. Fat has 9 calories per gram. I would say that Trader Joe's
is wrong. HOwever, they tend to round and if you rounded up on saturated
polyunsaturated and monounsaturated, you could end up with more fat than it
really has in it.
I'm not sure why you are bothering to enter all the foods as custom, since
Fitday has an entry for dark chocolate, and it is almost exactly the same
nutrition info as Trader Joes. |

OK, thanks.

I'm just learning this tool. It has 6-7 'pages' of entries for
"chocolate" and the list is unsorted (what's up with that?). I guess I
missed the one for dark chocolate. I had a bunch of foods to enter and
I guess I got tired of searching through an unsorted dictionary.
The UI on this thing could use a good human factors study.

Sometimes finding the right listing on fitday is maddening. I figured out
typing "dark chocolate" came up with sweet or dark chocolate. There are
aspects of fitday I really don't like. For one, I have to put my activity
level at sedentary or bed bound or something to get a remotely accurate bmr. |

Agreed. Poorly designed.

I haven't gotten to that yet. I entered my routine activities, so
we'll see.
I did send them a bug report and got a reply in 2 hours saying
'thanks' and that it would be sent to the developers to fix. No
estimate of when that would be.
With a little work, it could be so much more useful.

But, I've been using it for free for several years, and I don't think you
could ask for more. |

Oh, I thought we were talking about the offline (download) version.
You must be using the online version. But either way, free or $30, it
is a good deal.
Still, it could be a lot better.
