Default Food & Exercise -- 11/12/2006

The wine conference finished up last night, and today I flew from
Baltimore to Dayton (where I'm on a consulting task through Wednesday).
I went out for some groceries and then just holed up in my room all
afternoon and evening. (It's cold and yucky here, and I was feeling
sort of overtired, so just wanted to take it easy before starting the
work week.) Kept calories low today -- since I'd eaten a lot the last
few days -- but ate strangely for me. (As I don't have my GF grill yet
-- will pick it up from a Dayton colleague tomorrow -- and because I
wanted hot food on this cold day, I bought a couple of frozen meals to
microwave. I almost never eat these, as I prefer to make my own food,
and prefer a higher proportion of protein than these offer.)

Food:

* 7:45 (driving to airport): granola bar
* 9:30 (airport): 1 1/2 oz. beef jerky
* 11:30 (on the plane): package of cinnamon crisp things
* 4:00 (hotel room): Smart Ones individual cheese pizza
* 8:00 (hotel room): Lean Cuisine steak tips w/ portabello mushrooms &
broccoli
* 10:45 (hotel room): 1 1/2 cups f/f cottage cheese

Totals: 1218 calories, 36g fat (26%), 139g carbs (46%), 89g protein
(29%)

Exercise: None, other than schlepping around airports. I'd thought
maybe I'd go for a run once I got settled in Dayton, but it was too
cold and drizzly out. I could have done something in my room or used
the hotel exercise room, but I felt lazy.

Alright, this is going to sound like a waste of time, but it has worked for
me.

When I get home from work I do this little "exercise" I call, "The Reg"
It at least gets my heart rate going to burn a few Cals...

I stated 2 years ago doing this after NO EXERCISE for 10 years:

10 Jumping Jacks
10 Wind Mills
10 Leg Lifts (Lay on back, lifting legs 6" from ground and bringing knees up
to chest repetatively)
10 Sit Ups (Lay on back, knee to opposite elbow)
10 Push Ups (Full)

I've moved this regiment up to at least 20 for each now
I also walk a couple of miles a day, some days, and play drums vigurously
for 2 hours on Thursdays.
I am going to get some muscle training into the mix soon.

I know it's not alot, but it does keep me somewhat in the ballpark.

Well, I missed them, believe me! I could have had breakfast in the
hotel restaurant, but it looked kind of slow and I wanted to get on the
road to the airport as it was pouring rain. I won't get to have eggs
all week while I'm here in Dayton, probably. The hotel breakfast bar
has hard-boiled ones but the one time I tried one it was overcooked and
rubbery. Here I do a waffle w/ peanut butter for breakfast -- not a
good choice for every day, I think, but tasty for a few days :-). I'll
look forward to getting home to my poached eggs, though!

It doesn't sound like a waste of time at all. I'm a big believer in
"any exercise is good". However, yesterday I was feeling overtired and
made a conscious decision not to exercise. I have plenty of good
in-the-room exercises I can do. I travel with resistance bands and a
sort of foldable yoga mat :-). Tonight I'll definitely do some
exercise -- feeling much better today.
