Default Food & Exercise -- 12/3/2006

I did something fun and different today. My friend's new winery -- in
which we've recently invested -- is 5 miles from our house -- all
country roads. (If anyone's interested, the winery's web site is
www.wineryatlagrange.com.) DH and I decided we'd like to have lunch
there; they sell pates, cheese, crackers, etc., and of course wine. So
I ran to the winery and met DH there (he drove). We ate, hung around
and chatted with folks we know, then drove home. I really enjoyed
running somewhere new, and it's fun to actually be going someplace
rather than just in a neighborhood loop. And it's a bit of a
challenging run, since it's fairly hilly, so I felt pleased that I
could do it. (Maybe sometime I'll try running both ways, but not yet
:-).)

Food:

* 7:30 (home): 2 poached eggs on 1 slice whole wheat toast w/ 3 slices
melted f/f cheese & 10g grated parmesan
* 10:45 (home): energy bar
* 1:00 (winery): 8 oz. wine; 4 large multigrain crackers; 1 1/2 oz
chicken & duck pate; 1 1/2 oz brie; 1/2 oz. dark chocolate
* 7:45 (home): salad w/ 5 oz. salmon (leftover from my Thai dinner the
other night), 1 cup greens, 1 cup other veggies, 1/2 oz. dried
cranberries, 3 tbsp f/f sesame soy dressing

Totals: 1603 calories (151 from alcohol), 65g fat (37%), 108g carbs
(27%), 103g protein (26%)

Exercise: 12:00 -- 5 mile run, hilly terrain

I'm sure you could do it both ways. I hope the temperatures were a little
warmer than it was here today. It never got above freezing for the Sunday
morning bike ride. I also did a Christmas Lights ride tonight and it was
even colder<g>

I suppose I could make it, but 10 miles in one day is way more than
I've done. I think my longest run ever has been about 6.5 miles.
Still, I will try it sometime. I can always just walk for a while if
I need to, after all. And the return, while of course also hilly, has
a net decline in elevation so would be easier.

It was clear but chilly here today, but not as cold as Dayton by any
means. It was in the low to mid 40s when I was running. Running
warms me up, though. I was wearing long spandex pants but just a
short-sleeved shirt. I was chilly for the first mile or so but I know
from experience that after that I'm fine at that temperature. I don't
like running when it gets below around 35, as it bothers me to breathe
the cold air.

Tomorrow here we're supposed to have a high temperature in the 30s,
which I think will be our coldest day yet. Just a few days ago it got
into the 70s. Virginia has very inconsistent winters :-).
