Another day on the road. We drove to Grand Rapids to visit and have
lunch with DH's sister and nephew (who's heading off to Tennessee
tomorrow to start his first real job post-college). Then we drove to
Muskegon and got on the car ferry that took us to Milwaukee. We're
now in our hotel around 20 mi. west of Milwaukee. Tomorrow we'll
drive to Minneapolis to Tom's house. The ferry was cool -- a
catamaran that can go 40 mph (
www.lake-express.com). It took us
across the ~90 mile width of Lake Michigan in 2 1/2 hours.
We definitely over-indulged in food today. I told myself I didn't
want to go into a complete vacation eating mode on this trip, but
today was not good. I don't know how much better we'll do at Tom's;
he loves to eat :-).
Food:
* 8:30 (hotel breakfast bar): waffle w/ 2/3 oz. peanut butter and a
drizzle of s/f syrup; small cranberry juice
* 10:30 (driving): 1 small peach
* 11:15 (driving): ~1 oz. spiced smoked almonds
* 12:30 (restaurant): 1 glass wine (fume blanc); salad w/ lettuce, ~4
oz. steak, a little blue cheese, vinaigrette
* 3:00 (ferry boat waiting room): 1 medium peanut-butter cookie
* 4:45 -- 6:15 (ferry ride -- we changed time zones on the trip -- was
actually 2 1/2 hours): 2 glasses wine (chardonnay); 1 bratwurst in
bun; 1/2 bag potato chips; chocolate ferryboat-shaped candy -- largish
-- about the same amount of chocolate as a Hershey bar (freebie from
the boat)
* 7:15 (frozen custard stand -- a Milwaukee classic): rather large
cheeseburger; 1/2 order French fries; turtle sundae (frozen custard w/
caramel, hot fudge, & pecans
Exercise: None to speak of.
