Well, but she isn't eating the meat. (Not that I worry too much about
this stuff anyway. I don't eat a lot of MacDonalds stuff, but I
figure that if hamburgers haven't killed me yet they're probably not
going to.)

WOW.....that youtube video was toooooo much....and to think we eat
this stuff. Our government is NOT looking out for us, thats for
sure. They should show this on TV....we should have advertisements
showing us how to be healthy instead of pushing unhealthy foods on
us....It Is all about MONEY isnt it? |

I thought you might like to know, again, that I don't eat the MEAT on
the burger, as I said before. Do you ever go back and read what people
have responded to your posts with? Just curious because it seems like
I find myself answering the same questions over and over and repeating
myself a lot with some things that comment on. I tried explaining to
you in a recent post, that even with the meat on a hamburger from
McDonalds and small fries with a diet drink, that is not really a
super high calorie meal. It' would come in at around 500 calories.
That's not terrible. Don't get me wrong- I am not saying that it's a
healthy meal, by any means, but it's not as bad as you make it out to
be. You can eat fast food and be reasonable with it. I do it all the
time. This day you're posting about, I had a cheeseburger w/ no meat
on it and a drink. That's it. I didn't go to McDonald's and get a Big
Mac meal supersized with a huge Coke and 2 apple pies. My
"cheeseburger" consisted of 2 pieces of bread, a slice of cheese,
pickles, onions, ketchup and mustard. All of these things are low
calorie, except for the bread. I didn't have the nasty meat that I'm
sure the video you posted speaks of.
Sorry, I just don't like repeating myself. |

Perhaps if you called it a cheese sandwich with condiments it would make
more sense to people who haven't had a chance to read every single word
you've written here. Just a thought.

Shauhnathan is a vegetarian. However, I do think she gets far too
many of her calories from empty carbs. She seems to eat most of her
meals out, and her approach to adapting the available menu to her
vegetarianism seems to involve mostly eating lots of bread and such.

What Chris said- I am a vegetarian, well technically pescan, which is
someone who eats seafood but no other meat. The only reason I was
emphasizing the no meat on the burger thing is because people earlier
in the thread that were emphasizing how terrible burgers are for you.
The burger I was had was essentially bread, condiments and cheese. And
I don't really consider hamburger meat nutritious, anyhow. |

The meat is probably more nutritious than the cheese or cheese food

I highly doubt meat in a McDonalds burger is at all nutritious. It may
have protein, along with tons of fat and grease. So it probably does
more harm than good. I don't eat meat anyway, so it wouldn't matter if
it more nutritious, period. |

It appears from the mcdonalds web site that a meat patty has about the
same profile as a slice of cheese, but the cheese is only half as much.
Beef Patty 90cal 7fat 3sat 125sodium 8 protein
process cheese 50cal 3.5fat 2.5sat 230sodium 3protein
I presume you are pescan for ethical reasons? |

Interesting.... but I'm still curious what that grade of meat does to
your body. McDonalds meat is not healthy, lean meat. I think we all
know that. The cheese is cheese. It isn't fried or cooked or anything,
so as far as everything besides protein, I'm still goin with the
cheese being better than the meat.
Good debate though.
and yes, I am pescan for ethical reasons. |

Actually the cheese is "pasturized Processed American Cheese" which isn't
exactly "cheese is cheese". And except for the possible differences in
the details of the fatty acids, the nutritional profile of the beef patty
is similar to the cheese only the beef has a slightly lower percentage of
saturated fat. So it does about the same to your body as two slices of
the cheese. After all that isn't healthy lean cheese. And the fat came
with it from the cow, just like the beef.
It seems as if you have a few misconceptions about nutrition. It is
possible to eat an unhealthy diet in many styles. Go back and read old
vegetarian cookbooks from the 60's.
It is harder to get a proper diet nutritionally as a vegetarian. How is
your hemoglobin? donating blood is a service to the community, and they
check your hemoglobin. I recommend it. |

What I mean by the cheese is cheese is that it isn't fried. It's a
slice of cheese and yes, it is processed. The beef has a lower
percentage of saturated fat, but the cheese has less calories and I
count calories, so for me, the cheese is better. Besides, there's no
point in debating which is better- I don't eat meat. If the meat was
150% more healthy, I wouldn't have it on the burger anyway.
I agree that you can have an unhealthy diet & be a vegetarian. I tell
people that all the time. When I tell people that I'm vegetarian, they
say, "oh, well you must eat really healthy then." and I will say," No,
not really. You can eat just as much junk being a vegetarian."
I understand that it is harder to get a proper diet nutritionally as a
vegetarian. But do keep in mind that I am a pescan, not a true
vegetarian. I eat fish and other seafood, so I can also get what I
need, protein-wise from those foods. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
