Default Good day today

This past weekend I turned 60 years old.

Last winter I decided to do something about my weight. Basically cut
out sugar, salt and
processed foods and started exercising.

I went from 276 lbs 12/11/05 to 210 lbs 10/29/06

pat on the back!

Anyway. I decided to do a 60 mile bike ride on my 60th
birthday

I did it today. Up and had a bowl of granola for breakfast. I took the
bike over to the Baldwin Bike trail west of Jacksonville and a 60 mile
loop on it. Beautiful ride, beautiful day for a ride.

I stopped a couple of times for a few minutes, to have a power bar and
refill the water bottle

Driving home I was really hungry so pulled into a Burger King. I walked
in looked
at the menu and walked back out. I haven't had any "fast food" in
almost a year
and no desire for it now.

When I got home. I made a really great salad with tuna. flaxseed oil
and
apple vinegar for dressing.

Cheers,

Phil

Happy Birthday! The bike ride sounds like a great way to celebrate a
birthday. Weather permitting I'll be doing one on my next birthday but
it's in January and I doubt I'll ride my age which will be 64 I'll
save the longer rides for warmer weather here in SW Ohio.

Beverly & Phil, you are an inspiration to me!
I have just turned 60 and a month ago I decided it was time to stop being a
FFID and do something ... it's never too late. I want to retire next year
and I want to be alive to enjoy it!!
So I started a walking program. 3 weeks ago I started with walking 1 k and
have worked my way up to 4 k and this weekend I am going to tackle 5k.
It's a struggle. Have not lost a skerrick of weight yet but it's early days
and I shall persevere.
Changing my eating patterns is difficult, but I am trying to eat healthily -
more fruit & vegs and no processed rubbish. I live in rural New Zealand and
we do not have the range of fat-free or fat-reduced foods that you do in the
US and the UK. We only have real food! So I am just trying good old portion
control.

Cheers

Congratulations and happy birthday. I'm close to your age, and I
don't think I'd be able to do the ride you did, but I do still walk
10 or 12 miles in a day when I get the chance.

Thanks Judith.

I started my lifestyle changes for similar reasons. I wanted to enjoy my
retirement years. My family has a history of heart disease, diabetes and
cancer and my lifestyle was heading me in the same direction. I quit
smoking and started a weight loss and exercise program at age 53. I've
never regretted one moment for making that decision.

I think it's a little harder to lose weight when we're older but very doable
if we just stick with it. I've found that exercise is the key to losing for
me.

Hope to see you posting. It's a great place for info, support and
motivation.
