My brother,
It is amazing and encouraging to hear what you have accomplished these past
10 months. Like myself, you have become committed to change your lifestyle
for the better without the use of pills or surgery.
You ARE an inspiration to those you interact with or see you on a daily
basis, even though they may not acknowledge it.
I am always encouraged when I read your posts of victories - large or small,
as they help me to keep focus on the prize when I stumble.
Thank you for being a part of this group and congratulations!

I just love the way you men support each other - including keeping
track on some of the other guys who participate here as well.
To me it's one of the heartwarming things about this group, and sure
helps to counteract some of the less edifying stuff we have to wade
through.
FWIW, I'm sure you are both an inspiration to many here.

Matty, that was far too much praise. I am just a guy struggling to lose
weight. At times successfully, and at times less successfully, but
struggling just the same.

We could turn this into a roll call for all members. There are quite a few
new members and I would love to hear the stats for everyone.

| | | Re: Atten-SHUN! ASD Roll Call! Fall In! Ok, I'll fall in. My stats are in my sig. I've lost the weight by
eating less, eating better, and taking up exercise, mainly walking. I
used to live off of fast food. I would literally eat at Jack in the Box
5 nights a week. And I ate though big Hungry man dinners for lunch
while at work. During my ten minute breaks, I would stuff my face as
with as many pretzels as I could. I'd have a couple of full sugar
sodas, and maybe a candy bar and some chips. Now I eat things like
beans with salsa in whole tortilla, Boca fake chicken sandwich, a
sandwich with low calorie wheat bread and turkey with FF mayo, and I
drink ALOT of iced tea with Splenda instead of the soda.
Oh, I've also bought and use an electronic food scale. Now when I eat
cereal and chips and whatnot, I actually eat just one serving instead of
half the box.

Sgt Neil, your call to fall in coincided with my one month anniversary. of
my new WOL and I am celebrating with my first glass of wine in a whole
month. 30 days ago I started walking at least 30 mins a day 5 times a week,
and eating less. Nothing structured, just thinking before putting food in my
mouth and trying to move more. Today I weighed myself for the first time
since starting and I am happy to report that I have gone from 104 kilos to
100.7 kilos. Not spectacular, but it's a noticeable loss and I am happy with
it. And it is great motivation to keep going.
Thanks everyone for being such a great source of information and support.

Nope. The numbers go start weight/current weight/goal weight. 182 -
42 = 140.

Simple program of diet & exercise. Killed off the quick fast-food
lunches and the similar dinners (although it is still hard when you
finish at 7.00 and still have to go home and cook something healthy).
Bumped up the exercise to walk at least half hour each day and to be
more generaly active (as much as possible for an office worker).

Well here goes mine.
I originally lost 25 pounds in 1984 and stayed at my goal weight of 135
until 1996 when I quit smoking and gained 42 pounds putting me at my all
time high of 177. I went to WW and was able to reach my new goal weight of
140 by the end of 1996.
I've continued to stay near my goal weight by watching what I eat and
exercising. Cycling is my exercise of choice but I try to round it out with
weight training, walking/running on my treadmill and exercise videos.
Cycling seems to take over in warm weather as I average 100 miles a week.
Exercise is the main reason I've been able to maintain my weight loss.

| | | Re: Atten-SHUN! ASD Roll Call! Fall In! I just noticed this thread now that I've gotten home from my travels
and back to using Agent. So here's my data:
I'm a 58-year-old woman, 5'6" (since as long as we're getting to know
one another it's nice to have some idea of this stuff :-) ). I began
exercising about 6 years ago, at which time I weighed around 275 lbs.
I started with water aerobics to rehab a leg injury, and then got into
weight lifting. My focus at that point was not on weight loss but
just on getting a bit more fit and getting strong -- and I did some
pretty serious competitive weight lifting for a while. I lost a few
pounds but wasn't paying attention to that -- and I'm sure I built a
lot of muscle and lost fat. In mid 2002 I decided that it would be
good to lose some weight, so undertook a diet (calorie counting) and
added more cardio to my exercise to see if I could lose a bit. It
worked better than I expected :-). I now weigh in the 130s and have
kept in that range for 2 1/2 years. I still count calories and still
exercise a lot, though I've changed my exercise around over time. I
am no longer competing and, while I still try to lift heavy, am no
longer so fixated on maximum strength. I do some running, mountain
climbing, and yoga, and try to have fun :-).

I'm on day 21 of my diet and down 11 pounds. The first week was
tough--reducing my calorie count from 4000-5000 calories to 2000-3000
calories. I counted my calories carefully and tried to read up on
hunger and nutrition as much as possible.
The second and third week I stopped counting calories and just focused
on eating fruits, vegetables, grains, and nuts... limiting my portions
of bad foods... and working out. I have much more energy and I fit into
the booth at a local restaurant again.
I counted my calories yesterday. For a Saturday, 2700 calories seems
like a fine total, but I went overboard on the fat.
*** Yesterday's Menu ***
1/2 breakfast sandwich [360 calories]
(bagel, egg, spinach, ham, cheddar, mushrooms)
4oz orange juice [56 calories]
2 servings reduced-sugar oatmeal [240 calories]
1.5 oz almonds [258 calories]
4 oz blueberries [63 calories]
Bistec Encebollado [876 calories]
(10oz beef filet, 2/3 large, lightly-cooked onion, 2tbsp olive oil)
rice & black beans, 0.6tbsp olive oil [549 calories]
1 serving kashi granola bars [180 calories]
0.5 oz almonds [86 calories]
2 oz pinapple [15 calories]

Recovery is slow. My wife's speech is still really bad, and it makes
her depressed. We're hoping her company will have mercy and let her
return in January so we don't have to go on LTD. Otherwise we'll have
to borrow from our 401K's until she can get back to work.
As for holidays, we're keeping things low key and mellow. We've
explained to the kids that Santa is having a lean year. Our biggest
priority right now is getting their mom back to normal.
Thanks for remembering. |

Children are often wiser and stronger than parents know. They sound
pretty lucky to have you as their dad. Just as your wife is lucky to
have you as her husband.
