Default I lost more weight

I was 110 lbs about two weeks ago.

I weighed in at 106.6 lbs this morning, after going pee. I'm 4'11".

My pants are definitely loose right now. I'm losing weight much faster
than I had anticipated. I'm averaging 1205 kcal/day. Why am I losing
this quickly? Is it all water weight I've lost? Maybe I burn more than
1400 kcal/day?

Jenny (used to be One)

I'm not sure, but that's great! Keep up the *healthy* weight loss. :-)

Nobody here can tell you why this happened, but we can tell you that it does
happen. This process isn't usually linear. But this looks like a healthy
rate of weight loss. I hope you're eating healthy and taking care of
yourself!

I've also noticed that weight loss is not linear. I was stuck at 113
lbs for about 3 weeks and then within about a week I was down to 110
lbs. Very strange.

Jenny, if you're dieting correctly 1-2 lbs a week is right on target.
However, I would suggest you periodically check you Lean body
Mass to make sure you're nor losing any muscle .

1-2 lbs a week is fine if you are significantly overweight, because even
after the required calorie deficit to lose at that rate (500-1000 per day)
you still have enough calories to function on. But when you get to the low
weight that Jenny is at, 106, it takes next to nothing to maintain
bodyweight at that level. Jenny is doing no exercise, so at 106 lbs, she
should maintain at around 1200-1400 calories. If she wants to lose 1-2 lbs
per week, she'll need to eat between 200-900 calories. Do you see where I'm
going with this? 200-900 calories is starvation. Her body will shut down
or at least become weak and unhealthy at that level. It just isn't a good
thing at all.

Take a step back and look at the big picture. What Jenny is doing is not
healthy. We shouldn't encourage her to hurt her body.

Really, though, how could she NOT be losing muscle. She is eating next to
nothing and doing no muscle sparing exercise. She also eats very little
protein. She has not bothered to have her bodyfat tested, so she really has
no idea if her weight loss at this point is mostly muscle loss due to severe
calorie restriction, lack of protein and exercise.

I didn't lose almost 4 pounds in two weeks. I've gained back 2 pounds.
It was probably dehydration maybe, I dunno.

I'm afraid to weight myself today. I binged really bady. I ate 2899
kcals, most of which was in one sitting. The only good thing about
today was that I was able to stop myself from purging.

Don't worry about me losing too much weight. I'm not anorexic, I'm
probably bulimic. I'm also a long way away from a BMI of 17.5, which is
considered anorexic.

I know I'm losing muscle, but I hope I'm also losing fat. If I have a
deficit of calories my body will use some fat, so I'm pretty sure I'm
losing fat as well.

Thanks for your concern. I'm already getting help with my problem. I'm
just not going to get better overnight. In the meantime little things
like reducing the frequency of by binging and purging are victories.
Losing muscle is the least of my worries. I have to worry about
seizures, stomach rupture and heart attack.

I had an aunt die of bulimia. It was a long slow miserable and lonely
journey and the end result was death. During her illness, she went from a
robust and healthy person, to a gaunt, sallow, pale, person. Her hair
became brittle, her skin wrinkled, she lost her energy, her zest. Her teeth
fell out from the acid in her vomit. The day before she died, she told my
mom she just needed to lose a couple pounds, and she was fine. Her heart
finally just stopped.

Jenny, if you have bulimia, it's time for you to focus on the treatment of
that illness. I do not believe that members of this board can support your
weight loss in good conscience.

Jenny, your health is far more important than your weight! Maybe it is time
to put your scale away and concentrate on a healthy eating and exercise
plan. You have gained a lot of knowledge about healthy eating. Keep
working on that and forget about weight for the moment. You say you are
getting help for your problem. With a competent professional, right? I
would hate to see you damage yourself permanently just to force a silly
little machine on the bathroom floor to give you a number that in the long
run, is meaningless without good health!

Your BMI is around 21, so you probably look fit already. I don't mean
to pry, but what triggers your binges, and what did you eat to rack up
so many calories?

I overeat whenever there's too much tasty food laying around. If I buy
a whole cake... well, let's just say I try to buy by the slice. The
same goes for pizza.

After the trick or treaters left on Halloween, I buried the leftover
peanut butter cups out of sight in my closet. An hour ago, my wife
cleaned out the closet, found the peanut butter cups, and arranged them
invitingly in a bowl in my kitchen... argh! I've put them back in the
closet, but now I'm craving sweets.

> Thanks for your concern. I'm already getting help with my problem.

I'm glad--we all need help sometimes.

You didn't purge tonight, so good for you.

At your weight, if your calorie deficit is too large your body will burn
mostly muscle before fat. It takes fewer calories to burn protein (muscle)
so that's what your body is going to do if you don't give it enough calories
to maintain itself. It will take the path of least energy expended to
survive which means it will burn muscle before fat. That's why I told you a
few weeks ago that you shouldn't consistantly eat below your BMR.

Losing muscle would be the reason you have to worry about heart attack. Your
heart is a muscle. I'm not trying to scare you but you just don't seem to be
connecting the dots.

You would be much better off eating a 1500 calorie HEALTHY diet consisting
of a variety of vegetables, meats, and fats. Then exercise, not only to burn
the extra calories but to gain lean muscle mass (and strengthen your heart
in the process).

I'm glad to hear you're getting help for the emotional issues around your
binge eating. I can't help but think that eating a healthy diet of
sufficient calories might make it easier for you to resist a binge if your
body isn't crying out for nutrients all the time.

Just my two cents.

I don't have bulimia, at least not yet. I fit fit all the criteria
because I've never binged and purged for 3 straight months.

I'm working with my doctor to stop my binging and purging.

Sorry about your aunt. It's a horrible illness.

Stress, anxiety, anger, depression, can all trigger my binges. It's not
about hunger at all. I binged on a cream filled snowball (220 kcal),
fries (350 kcal), and 5 giant cookies (170 kcal each, 850 kcal total).
It's nowhere near a true bulimic binge though.

You didn't give in though and that's great.

The other thing you need to know Jenny is that if you lose muscle
while you diet you are also compromising the density of your bones.
Osteoporosis is a major threat to your health, especially if you are
petite. That's another reason you need to eat a good balanced diet
(and I mean well rounded, not just weight loss oriented) and exercise,
both cardio and weight bearing (muscle building)
