Default Just checking in

It's been quite awhile since I posted here but have been reading the
group frequently. I guess old habits are hard to break I
originally started posting here in the late 90's. I see a few familiar
names but also a lot of new ones.

I had a slight weight gain earlier this year but have been watching
the diet and I'm happy to say I'm back at my WW goal weight of 140.
Now we'll see if I can keep it off over the winter. I've been doing
lots of biking this summer and with the winter weather approaching
I'll need to adjust my food intake and drag out the indoor trainer.

I've had some work done on the bike to make it easier to climb hills
but the biggest improvement would be a less few pounds on "my
frame"

I hope everyone is doing well with their weight loss or maintenance
and I hope to be posting a little more than I have in the past few
months.

Winter's a tough time for me. I rely on my bike so much for keeping in
shape, and I am just not hardy enough to go out when it is raining... I
know, I'm a wuss! I've already decided to allow myself a marginal gain of
10 lbs over the winter, but I am keeping up with exercise in some form (just
not as much) 5 days a week.

Hi Beverly. I still read this group (habit I guess) but I've told my
story so many times here in the past that I don't have the energy to
go through it all again. Also, I don't think the group is going
through one of its better phases at the moment

I shall look out for your posts, and will join in if I have anything
useful to say.

Hi Janice & Beverly -- miss you guys here :-). I agree with you that
the group is not going through a great phase lately -- not much useful
discussion going on.

I know how tough is can be to get out on the bike during bad weather. I try
to ride at least 3 days each week during winter but sometimes its just not
possible - snow, ice, etc. I bought an indoor trainer last year and plan to
set it up in the family room again this year but it's really tough to spin
and not go anywhere I bought some training DVD's for cycling but even
those get a little boring after a few minutes. Hopefully we won't have a
harsh winter in Ohio this year.

Old habits are hard to break

I hope you join in as I agree things are a little slow in here at the
moment.

I still hope to get to your area of the world after retirement for some
cycling. I've been hanging out in a cycling forum and one of the members is
from your area. He's always talking about some great places to cycle near
his home.

I hope to post on a more regular basis. I've been taking advantage of the
good weather and getting out on the bike as often as possible. I just
turned 3,000 miles for this year and that was without much riding the first
three months of the year. I've started leading some rides for the cycling
club. I'll be leading that one each Friday through the end of the year.
I'm hoping to take a few days and head south with the bike to do some riding
over the winter.

I also recently bought an indoor trainer for my bike so I can ride on the
worst winter day. By the way, cycling is a great way to burn calories for
those too heavy to jog and for those with foot problems. It is zero impact
on the joints.

I tried running about 10 years ago and found it too stressful on the
knees. The only thing I watch now is not to stress the knees with too
much climbing while on the bike. Sitting and spinning up those hills
is much easier on the knees than standing and mashing up them Of
course there have been a few this year where standing was the only way
to get over the top!

Might change some going into the holiday/winter season, I think people
tend to post more when the weather is less pleasant out. I know I need
to change stuff around and get back on track. Fortunately, I haven't
been "off track" more than a few weeks.

I've just had a bit of a bad stretch myself. I know I've gained a few
pounds back, but I also know I'm retaining water right now. Hope to
get back on track full bore by the weekend, and then get a true weight
by Monday.

Have been getting a few items for winter, like a couple exercise DVDs
and finally a fitness ball. We're on a steep hill, so when we get
freezing rain, I do NOT take the car out unless an emergency arises.
Hubby gets studded tires, but I just wait until it thaws, and save the
money.

It will be good to hear more from you! I should check in more myself.

I think I will also need to adjust food intake some, have been having
more foot trouble, which means I can't exercise as much or as
intensely, so I need to cut the calories back.

I'm sure you'll do fine and get your "frame" down.

Mostly lurk myself, for that matter.
