Well, according to calorieking.com, a quarter pound of lard has 1008
calories, and a Quarter Pounder (regular, no cheese) has 420. If you
go up to a double with cheese, it's 730 -- still less than the lard.
Of the things that food consists of -- basically fat, protein,
carbohydrates, and water -- fat is the highest in calories per unit
weight. Since lard is all fat, it's going to be higher than anything
else that weighs the same amount.
It takes about 3500 excess (i.e., over what you burn) calories to add
a pound of weight, so I guess that would say that 1008 calories for
1/4 pound of lard could add a little more than 1/4 pound of weight.
I'm not sure how that works. The regular 420-calorie Quarter Pounder,
on the other hand, would cause less than 1/8 pound of potential weight
gain.
