Egg whites are a cheap, good source. I like to make meringues, but you
could scramble them and even include a little yolk if you are brave.
The yolk though is where the fat and cholesterol is, so I never touch
that.
The book is out on whether you even need to increase protein. If you
are talking serious bodybuilding, you might need a little more, but for
regular hard exercise 1.8 grams per kilogram of weight is plenty. There
is some evidence that too much protein damages your kidneys, too so
don't overdo the protein.
I have a friend who is a bodybuilder into really heavy weights and all
he does is eat a couple of cans of tuna for his added protein per day
he says. I don't know what his regular diet is, but he is very muscular
and doesn't take any supplements he says. dkw
