Default looking for information

Hi there folks
I am a college teacher specialising in fitness training and gym
management.I am doing some research and was hoping that the group could
help me with a couple of questions.I live in the UK where the fitness
industry for kids is just starting to take shape. My questions are

What type of fitness equipment is currently popular with kids 6 -16 yrs

What is the main phsical activity that kids participate in specifically
to loose weight

Is there any feedback or indication on the popularity of specific kids
gyms in your area

I would very much appreciate your comments.
Likewise if you have any questions for me on my specialism I will
certainly help where possible
Look forward to your comments

Thanks
Fred

fins

most kids that need to lose (it's not loose, geesh, you're a college
teacher???) weight are not exercising. But the way to keep them fit is
plenty of healthy play.

There are no "kids" gyms in my area.

Basketballs, roller blades, bicycles, skateboards.

Kids in America get enrolled in classes by their parents - like dance,
karate, or gymnastics, or some sports activities like soccer, baseball
or swimming. Regular gyms like Golds/24Hr Fitness etc, usually do not
allow children as members because of high liability costs if they would
injure themselves.

I would say the biggest problem with kids today (and many adults too)
is that they dont understand nutrition basics like calories, protein
carbs fats etc and what they better food choices they should be/could
be making. You can exercise em all you want but if they are eating crap
its all for nothing.

Thanhs for the reply
In the Uk most kids are ok with the concept of decent food as it is
often a subject on the school curriculum.Parents however from the last
20so years missed out on this and it is they who are predominantly
doing there kids harm. Also exercise is a problem (a lack of it that
is) as crime and home entertainment has significantly contributed to a
lack of vigorous exercise outdoors for our kids.
Cheers

Thanks for your reply. Regarding the spelling, we all make simple
mistakes.
Question. In your local area do kids tend to exercise with their family
or at specific children's activity sessions? When exercise is their
specific purpose for going out is this in the immediate neighbourhood
or is there an acceptance to travel some distance to find specialised
activities.

Thanks again
Fred

I don't understand the question. In my area, kids don't tend to do formal
exercise. They do sports or outdoor activities that would be considered
exercise. I don't know ANY kids where the specific purpose of them going
out is exercise. What I am trying to say here is kids don't want to
EXERCISE, they want to PLAY. Disguise exercise as play and you'll attract
kids (and adults).

Sorry, spelling is a pet peeve of mine. It seems like most people these
days missed grammar during school or something... Punctuation is the other
peeve... People who use apostrophes where they don't belong, etc. I guess
I'm just anal!

Is your concern about puncutation related to the excessive use of
periods, also? Or is it just the apostrophe that you're anal about?

You won't interest kids in "exercise" classes. Exercise for exercise means
nothing for kids (and for most adults).

What can you do to make them move without them realizing they are?

That's what you should be asking.
