| | | Marathon training week one Here we go then, first week first day. This week is actually well below
what I normally do so I'm torn between the two camps of "training plans
should be adjusted to suit you" and "take it slow now, you'll need the
energy later".... Can't quite decide which way to go.
Week Beginning 1 January
Mon 3M (miles) (approx 30 mins) slow
Tue Rest
Wed 4M (approx 40 mins) slow
Thu 2M (approx 18 mins) steady
Fri Rest
Sat 7M (approx 72 mins) slow
Sun 3M (approx 30 mins) easy
I'm not sure I can stick to this - it doesn't seem worth getting changed for
2 miles!

You're doing great! I run 5 days a week as well, my longest run being 6
miles. Have you been running for a while? As I remember, you have. At 7
miles, you're not just starting out, I wouldn't think.
Good luck, thanks for the progress report. Here's my last week:
Week 11:
Mon: DNR
Tues: 2 miles - hill work
Wed: 2.5 miles
Thurs: 2 miles mid-tempo
Fri: DNR
Sat: 2 miles
Sun: 6 miles |

Hi SF!
I've been running for a touch over 2 years now. Started with the usual
charge out of the door followed by collapse 3 minutes later! My mileage is
usually 30-40 miles per week so the start is a bit low. I think I might just
stick to what I know this week and start properly next weeks when they add
the speedwork.

Very wise of you, Rachel.
You can always increase as you go along. I had been running for a while
and had to stop after a skiing accident last march. It took a while to
get off my fat ass to start running again. And I've forgotten how
meaningful it is to me. It isn't always fun, it's certainly not easy,
but so worth all the effort!!! I'm planning on running the Sacramento
Int'l Marathon next December.
I can't wait to hear more of your progress! |

Any goal is nice, and this seems like a better goal than the one in the
book I just read, "Julie & Julia" where a woman set out to cook all the
recipes in Julia child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking". :-)

Well, it's certainly a better bet from the weight loss perspective
:-).

Or Edgar Lee Master's example of poor goalsetting, from his "Spoon
River Anthology":

OUT of a cell into this darkened space-
The end at twenty-five!
My tongue could not speak what stirred within me,
And the village thought me a fool.
Yet at the start there was a clear vision, 5
A high and urgent purpose in my soul
Which drove me on trying to memorize

Hope all is going well for you Dally. I read your surgery blog last night
and it sounds nasty but improving!
