When I left the Marine Corps in 1987 I vowed NEVER to do another sit-
up. Most of the time, I have kept to that promise. I HATE exercise. I
hate sweating. It is so boring, one, two, one, two. One set, now
two.... blah, blah, blah.
I tried a personal trainer in Denver, it worked for a little while but
then we ended up talking more than working out and as it got me out of
crunches... well, you can guess what happened.
So, when Wii came out with the Wii Fit last month. I had already pre-
ordered it. I love the Wii tennis, baseball and bowling. So I thought,
hey! Maybe it will take my mind off what I'm doing, and you know what?
It does. Big time.
I like that it weighs you. I think the BMI has been proven not so
helpful, since a short muscular person will be considered obese. (we
had that same problem with guys in the Corps) But you can see the
fluctuations in your weight. I don't worry about that so much if I
have stuck to my Brazilian diet of no white food (bread, potatoes,
rice) and no sugar. I eat mostly protein, lots of veggies and fruit.
Since January 2008, I have lost 37 lbs.
Where was I? Oh, yes. As of tonight, I have logged 130 minutes and
lost 7 lbs by using the Wii Fit (
http://www.nintendo.com/wii). At
first I was pathetic at nearly everything. The first time I went
through every exercise available. I began to unlock more areas. I
wanted to stop after 30 minutes, but I was just points away from
knocking my 13-year-old nephew out of first place. So I kept on going.
I found that beating someone else's score to be VERY satisfying. Today
I went to Sunday lunch at a very nice restaurant that had a chocolate
buffet. For those of you that don't know, Brazil has the most
incredible chocolate. So I blew the diet. I blew it yesterday too with
onion rings and a milkshake. So after laying down for three hours to
think about what I had done....
I got out the Wii Fit and pushed myself to do 58 minutes tonight. How
cool is that? I was so sweaty and happy with my efforts, And because I
live in hotels most of the time due to business, I can take it with
me. It helps to do yoga when you can't sleep.
At 47 and obese. I really have fun with this and look forward to each
workout. (SOOOOOOO, not me.)
