Welcome, Shotman. Beverly has already recommended a couple of good
online resources where you can learn a lot. Another one I like is
www.exrx.net. Its focus is more on exercise, but there's also a good
diet and nutrition section.
Exercise is important, as you note -- both cardio and weight training.
Also, you will want to start reading these sites or other diet
resources to learn about good food choices. In general, you want to
focus on lean proteins (less fatty meats and fish, legumes,
reduced-fat dairy products), fruits and vegetables, and whole grain
products. White rice isn't on the list of best choices :-). Brown
rice is much better, but I don't know if it's common in the Indian
diet -- don't think I've ever been served it in Indian restaurants.
You'll want to try to cut back on dishes that have a lot of fat added
in cooking, as well as sugary dishes and sweets.
If you stick around here you'll get lots of good hints from people on
the list. Many of us have been successful in weight loss -- though
you're right, it's not that easy. You can do it. Just start making
small improvements and then gradually changing a little more as you go
forward.
