Default Oatmeal, cereal of choice.

Oatmeal is an excellent grain/cereal choice. It is higher in protein
and fiber (than any other readily available whole grain) with a
resulting decrease in carbs and calories, even when you include the
fact it is higher fat than whole wheat or whole rice, or whole corn.
40 grams of rolled oats (one serving which is 1/2 cup dry) has 150
cal, 3 gm fat, 5 gm. protein and 27 gm protein, and it has 4 gm of
fiber. Since the higher fiber contributes to no calories but only size
and weight, it turns out that whole oats are the lowest calorie of any
of the grains. As far as I can see, oatmeal is the best staple whole
grain available. The fact it is also one of the cheapest and very
healthy is also important. dkw

Eating oatmeal with sugar or brown sugar hurts my stomach. Why?

Could be the fiber. Other than that I don't know. I eat 5 servings
every day though and it doesn't bother mine, plus I eat other fiber as
well like green beans. If it is only hurting with sugar, I still don't
know why, but I eat mine with Equal and Smuckers low-cal syrup. Only
if I get the flu about once every 3-4 years does my stomach ever
bother me though...cast iron stomach I guess. dkw
