I just had the best oats...ever. I started them yesterday afternoon in
the solar oven, then finished cooking them today. I guess the slow
cooking somehow improves the flavor. I had been nuking them the night
before, then reheating them just before eating in the microwave, but
this technique is best. I guess it shouldn't surprise me though. Steel
cut oats are so much tastier than rolled oats, and steel cut oats
cooked in the solar oven are the best ever. Hey, its free....well not
quite. I probably used up more energy opening the door to readjust my
solar oven than I would otherwise.
Next I'll try beans and lentils. Beans take a long time to cook, so
they really heat up your house....not to mention making your house
beany smelling. This might be the answer to both those side effects.
Now I need to make another solar oven cause mine is small...just large
enough for the oats, which I eat everyday, so I can't cook beans and
oats at the same time until I make another. The first one was fun to
make. For reflection, I bought a large mylar reflector that was
designed for car windshields to keep your car from getting so hot on
these sunny days. That really my only construction expense...$9 or so
for that. Man, I wish I had some more oats. Come on GLOBAL WARMING.
Where are you when I need you. LOL dkw
