"Women who are obese before pregnancy face a higher risk of having
babies with a variety of birth defects than women with a healthy
weight, a new study suggests.

The results involving nearly 15,000 women from eight states found
abnormalities of the spine, heart, arms, legs and abdomen, building on
previous research that showed heart and spine defects. The greatest
risk was for spina bifida."

Along with the medications used to control symptoms I am usually given sound
advice on diet and exercise etc. to actually fix the problem. Medications
to control symptoms are covered by insurance. Actions that can be taken to
actually resolve or pervent problems are not.

For those in the group that said doctors are "discriminating" when they tell
women to lose weight before pregnancy - gee maybe the trained medical
professional knows what is best after all!

Could that be, at least in part, because the fathers of these babies
are likely to be genetically inferior males who can't find an
attractive mate?
