Is it OK to eat canned salmon everyday?

Default Is it OK to eat canned salmon everyday?

I read that tuna should be limited to 6 oz a week. It's too bad because
I love tuna. I just had a huge salad with Light Italian dressing and a
can of tuna and it was very filling and very low cal.

I'm worried about the mercury in tuna so I've decided to eat canned
salmon instead. I read that farmed salmon has high levels of PCB's and
other toxins and wild salmon has less. Canned salmon is usually wild
and has levels of mercury that are not detectable.

Eating canned salmon should be very safe right? Is it safe enough to
    eat everyday?

I plan on eating a huge salad with either canned salmon or turkey
    nearly everyday now.

I'd cut out the low cal dressing and use no fat dressing...Why add 8g of fat
    or so on a dressing?

I'm unsure why you would eat the same thing daily as that may make you
bored with your food and more likely to binge. Any lean protein is
fine for your meal, or cooked veggies instead of a salad, or left overs
from supper, etc... I have canned fish or meat a couple times a week
but usually have left overs. Canned anything tends to be high in
    sodium and preservatives!

I get sick of salad too so often just have some fresh or steamed
    veggies along with my protein...

The low cal Italian dressing I use is only 5 kcal/tbsp. I don't
remember exactly how much fat it has, but it's definitely below 1g.

Too lazy to cook? I know, I know, bad excuses. LOL

I'm sorting through some healthy recipes right now. I'll try to spice
    things up a bit.

Good point about the sodium and preservatives. I didn't think of that.

I'm going to roast some red peppers, and maybe bake myself an apple
    with Splenda.

    I can get creative. :-)

BTW, do you put any oil on the veggies before you grill or roast them?

I spray garlic infused olive oil... delicious and with a spray bottle the
amount that actually goes on is minimal..

There is a context where eating the same thing day in and day up
works and doesn't cause problems - Making a ritual at a time of day
you're not alert enough to have variety. A morning person might
eat the same dinner daily but have plenty of variety early in the day.
An evening person might eat the same breakfast daily but have
plenty of variety later in the day.

But having the same pattern across the entire day, agreed.

I eat the same thing every day as well. I get on a "kick" of a certain
group of foods, and I eat it until I'm sick of it. Usually my breakfast and
lunch will stay the same for weeks, with only dinner changing. It helps me
to plan out my calories and keeps shopping simple. There's nothing wrong
with it if you are enjoying it and it's healthy.

I eat the same breakfast about 95% of the time. It's oatmeal, protein
powder and ground flaxseed. I enjoy it, it's easy to fix and it keeps me
satisfied until lunch. About the only time I don't eat it is on the Sunday
morning bike ride to breakfast where I always get a veggie omelet with
    salsa<g>

Beverly - who had the veggie omelet on today's breakfast ride.

you'll be making yourself so sick in under a week; you gotta have some
variety; your organs will go haywire?
