Yo-yo is not a myth. It's what happens when someone comes off a "DIET" &
reverts to their previous eating habits.

I keep very careful, daily records of my weight, calorie intake and exercise
since I started dieting last October. Six weeks into the program I hit a
wall. Eating the same, exercising the same, but for a week didn't lose any
weight ... in fact I gained a bit.
I started doing some research and found many references to "preservation
mode", "storage mode", etc. whereby the theory is that the body has a
biological program that will slow down the metabolism and begin storing fat
if it senses that the fat reserves are being burned too quickly.
The recommendations were to "shake up" the system by temporarily increasing
calorie intake and modifying the exercise routine to include short "bursts"
of very high intensity exercise.
I tried it and it worked. I broke through the "wall" and started losing
weight again. Since the first occurrence, this cycle has repeated several
times. Each time I modify the calories and exercise and the weight starts
to come off again.
Not scientific by any means but my results are consistent with the theory.

I yo-yoed for years, getting down into the 140's or 150's, then eating
everything in sight back to well over 200. When I was in my eating
phase, I have no idea what happened to my metabolism because I have no
clue as to how many calories I was consuming...other than to say a lot.
Last time it was 230 at least before I lost the weight for good ( I
think). I too noticed the reduced caloric requirement eating and
exercising the same. I went from needing 2,000 cal to maintain my
weight to about 1750. I'm not absolutely certain of the 1750, because
that's what I eat now and my weight stabilized and may have even gone
down a little, so it may be 1850 or so before I am done, but it is
lower than 2,000 for certain. My weight got down to 132, then crept
up...but just a little over about 5 months to 138 on the 2,000 cal.
Since eating 1750, it is about 136 over a 2 month period. There could
be a lot of factors... like sleeping more or moving slightly less, or
getting older, eating more salt and retaining a little more water..or
perhaps just being a little dehydrated initially, or scales not
working exactly right, etc., but I am very meticulous about counting
calories, the amount of exercise and it's been the same balance at the
gym all along, so I think it is a metabolic change. All the charts and
guidelines say I should be eating about 2,000 given my exercise level
and weight. dkw |

So do you want to exist or do you want to live? Trolls don't have
long life spans because their identities are so shallow they keep
being blown away by reality.
