| | | second big push to lose weight So, I started a really great effort in mid-august to lose the last 15 lbs.
I cut calories and exercised quite religiously. It lasted for about 6
weeks, when the kids got sick, I missed some workouts and my resolve to "eat
less and exercise more" really waned. In the past couple weeks, I've fiddle
farted around with, "how committed am I REALLY?" and haven't solidly made up
my mind to get back on the wagon. But this morning I woke up mentally
prepared to make the commitment. So, I did up a ridiculously anal
spreadsheet to track my efforts and progress. I am leaving for Europe in 47
days, so my goal is to have a 500 calorie per day deficit for the next 46
days. I think I can do it, even through the notoriously difficult
holidays... Halloween, Thanksgiving, yikes!
At any rate, I appreciated the 2 week break and feel renewed, and I didn't
gain anything back. Now I just have to tell myself..."one day at a time"... |

That's the kind of diet I strive for all the time, long term. Mostly I
succeed. I don't eat "junk" food, ie - storebought crappola, but I do wind
up eating too many home baked goodies. |

five or six small meals instead of three big ones? It seems I don't get as
hungry and I have more energy that way -- I've read that blood sugar stays
more level with small frequent meals, and metabolism stays higher.

I too, have about 15 pounds to lose. I've lost 8 so far, 15 more to go.
I can't cut my calories by 500 though, I would be eating too little.
How many calories will you be eating everyday?
Right now I'm aiming to eat 1100 kcal/day. I didn't do so well today,
ate 1400 instead.

My goal is 1200 calories per day. I don't get all my deficit from cutting
calories though... I aim to burn around 250 per day in exercise to make up
the rest. For me, it's much easier to add exercise in so I don't feel like
I'm starving to maintain a deficit.
Did you know that exercise boosts your metabolism so that you are burning
more calories at rest as well? I know you seem to have an aversion to
exercise, but it is the missing link to weight loss, I swear. |

What way have you found to count calories that is
easily done? |

I find it easier to control hunger if I eat smaller more frequent
meals. I don't usually eat between breakfast and lunch but do find I
need something between lunch and dinner and often a small snack in the
evenings.
I also find I need to schedule my food intake around long bike rides as
getting hungry on one of them could cause major problems. I imagine
others in the group do the same when doing strenuous exercise.

Why? I don't believe that eating certain foods is what makes us overweight,
it's eating TOO MUCH and not getting enough exercise. |

And I want my big meal at dinner. I don't usually eat until 10am, after my
exercise. Then it's a sprouted grain toast with peanut butter and a glass
of nonfat milk. Then I have 2 fairly small meals - like a yogurt and then a
protein shake a little later, with the bulk of my calories reserved for
dinner. |

Well, I guess I just don't agree with that. I would much rather learn
control, or practice willpower. I'm not an alcoholic, I don't want to sign
off on all goodies forever. |

I could never give up the goodies forever! I try to limit dessert to once
or twice a week and make sure it's a small serving. My problem was bringing
ice cream into the house so I don't do that anymore. If I want ice cream I
make a trip to the ice cream palor for a single dip cone. An ice cream cone
makes a great treat in the middle of a long bike ride

I can sure relate to that! There's a place in the Columbia Gorge where they
serve ice cream in this little service station in the middle of nowhere. It
is in the middle of one of my rides, so i stop over and get a scoop. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
