| | | Strange cravings I haven't even thought about junk food in over two years, but I've
been taking some medication that I think is giving me cravings.
The other day, out of nowhere, I thought "I really want a Hostess
cherry pie and an A&W."
I didn't act on it (yet), but it was really weird.
I've also been eyeing the Easter candy. |

BTDT with the meds. If you do eat the junk food you'll feel 10x more crappy.
I can't even handle the stuff or else I just get weirdly ill in spite of
cravings. My almost-teenaged foster child likes regular Dr. Pepper which I
also love. I tried a sip and it didn't even taste right.
I've basically written off the cravings as a part of my day to day
existence - something that will be there and I just have to ignore. My
"junk food" treat is a whole wheat tortilla with natural PB wrapped around a
banana or an occasional sf jello cup.

There's stuff that I have taken before, mostly antidepressants, the wreaked
havoc on my cravings. So much so in fact, that it was more depressing to be
on them than off! |

| | | Re: Strange cravings You need to take a hard look at the medications. 20 extra pounds can take
years off your life. Are the meds worth it?
Sometimes there is an alternative medication without the same side effects.

Nah, I haven't given in to the cravings. I'm still holding at my
ideal weight and working out every day.
Plus, with the nice weather coming, I'll get another 2-3 miles
outdoors with the stroller in the afternoons.
But I do blame the meds for the food cravings, only because it's the
only thing that's changed since I started having them.
And they're only short term...probably just a few more months.
But a cherry pie and root beer...crazy! |

I was *starving* when I was on prednisone. If it stayed still long
enough, it was in my mouth.
Good luck keeping the cravings at bay--perhaps keeping some fruit or
other healthy snacks at hand will help.
And if not...A&W does make a sugar-free root beer (and a cream soda).
And cherry pie is always allowed as long as it's made by a four-foot
tall, 85-year-old grandmother.

I'd have a boatload of chips and french onion dip. And a case of beer.
Ah, those were the days.

Sure...but that's not the kind I was craving.
I still do all the cooking, and I'm making healthy food.
And I make sure I'm well-fed before I go to the grocery store.
Otherwise I'd probably come home with a cart full of beef jerky. |

Here is what you can do. Take a bite of it, chew it a while, realize
one of two things. 1) It is the best tasting thing around and you
couldn't possibly get enough of it or 2) It isn't really all that
great. Then spit it out, and get on with the diet. People are on diets
because they cannot control their appetites; therefore, you cannot
start eating stuff like that or you won't stop. That is what I have to
do occasionally. Often, I find the taste isn't as good as I remember
and that works just as well. I'm not about the screw up my diet for
ANYTHING or ANYBODY. Once you are on that bandwagon, you can get
through those cravings. dkw |

BTDT... Last fall I had this serious craving for oreo (double stuff). I
then purchased some and put them in the cupboard. They then stayed there
for a month before I finally opened them. The thing was, as long as I had
them in the house and could eat them at any time, I was fine without having
them. |

That six pack of Corona still slips into my shopping cart occasionally
I'm sure the limes are healthy.

And for me, having them in the house is ok, but once they are OPEN, there is
no stopping me. |

If you're outdoors, try flipping the lime from the empty bottle with a
swing of the arm and a snap of the wrist. A fun way to burn a few
calories after consuming the Corona.
Cheers!

Beer is diet food for me. If I drink it, I get a violent headache and
puke my guts out. Everything including the beer comes up. Needless to
say, I eschew alcohol. I can't even stand to smell the liquor candies.
Must be something genetic. Far as I know nobody in my family, on my
father's side ever drank. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
