| | | Thought I'd Drop In Hello. I've been lurking for months, so I thought I'd formally
introduce myself. Hi. My name is Dan, and I'm over weight.
I came to a realization last Sunday, that if I was really serious at
losing the weight I want to, that I'd have to start working harder at
it. I hadn't been counting my calories. I've been going to the gym a
few times a week, mostly riding the bikes and swimming occasionally,
but I didn't really have a workout plan that I followed.
I did some deep thinking, and came up with a three step plan:
1) Start counting calories (which, to be honest, I haven't started
doing yet)
2) Start a formal exercise program. I found a 6 month training
program that will in the end have me running a 5k. 5k isn't alot, of
course, but you've got to start somewhere, and besides, currently I
only run if I'm being chased by something. I started this program on
Monday. So far, so good.
3) Find a support group. That was the easiest part 'cuz I knew where
you all were.
That's it for now. You'll hear more from me.
Peace
Dan

Welcome, Dan. I hope you post often--it helps. Since you said you've
been lurking for a while, you know all about Fitday, journaling every
day, and http://www.stumptuous.com, right?
I find, being the personality type that I am, that I stick to a plan
when I have my goals written down, my food journal handy, and Fitday as
my home page. Find a method that works for you, and you're on your way.
Good luck to you,
Amy

I'm basically new here too and in the time I've been here
learned so much and feel uplifted and energized to stick to
my goals.
Those 3-steps to of your plan are a good start.
Could you tell us what your goal is specifically?
Mine specific goal is to get my body fat% (LBM) to around 9%
by March, 2007
I'm currently at 23%

Breaking it into manageable steps is a super way to start. When you are
faced with losing x number of lbs, having to revamp your eating, and start
an exercise regime, it becomes very overwhelming. Take small baby steps,
and you'll get there. You have the right attitude. Remember, it's not a
"diet" (temporary change in routine to drop lbs), but a permanent way of
life that will sustain your new healthier body. |

A great start.

is missing, www.calorieking.com is a good companion site.

You found the right place--good luck!

Hi Dan, my name is Neil, and I am recovering from obesity. Very nice to
meet you.

You weren't one of those guys who spend all their time at the gym
talking about football, cars, politics, investments, or the ladies
aerobics class, were you? I would think that as long as you were
exercising, you were benefiting from it.

Yes, a good place to start.

Good for you. I think it's best to be goal oriented.
