why do you keep coming back here and asking the same questions. Is it
because you don't believe us? Yes, imo, 95 is too low.
As stated to you several times before, have you had your bodyfat % measured?
That is a MUCH better picture of where you are at and where you need to go.
How is your eating coming along? Have you kept a handle on the
binging/purging? How about exercise. |

I am interested in what other people's target BMI's are.
I haven't had my bodyfat measured. My eating hasn't been that great.
Too much chocolate and chips. OTOH, I haven't purged since Dec. 12.

Don't get me wrong Jenny, I want you to succeed and be healthy. Please see
if you can have your bodyfat tested. A healthy range would be 18% - 24%.
That is a more objective measurement. |

Dude, you have absolutely nothing to worry about on the weight loss
front! I know its a hard thing to accept, particularly for a young
woman but you look fine, certainly not overweight. You time would be
far better spent making excercise a part of your life. If you realy get
into it you'll be amazed at the difference it can make to your physical
appearance. It's an obsession worth having!
My BMI is at about 22.5 BTW but I regard it as a fairly useless
indicator. |

I'm not sure about your BMI and sometimes photos can be deceiving, but
it does look like you are within a reasonable weight range...but could
lose a few more pounds, perhaps 20. Very brave of you to show your
photo though. You will find that people who are thin will think you are
overweight and people who are overweight will think you are about
right. You do appear to be within the medical range for a healthy
weight though. dkw |

I don't target my BMI, because muscle can show someone as being
overweight, when they are certainly not overfat. I do like to use the
charts that compare heighth and weight ranges. I'm male, 5'8" and 133
pounds which puts me at the lower range for weight of all the charts
I've seen. More to the point, I have no visible fat and nobody looking
at me would think overweight. Some think underweight though. A big part
of it is what YOU are comfortable with so long as you fit within the
healthy range for medical purposes. For my height, the medical range is
126-162. That range is always a broad range and is based on medical
studies. Here is the link I like: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm dkw |

No I don't think you could stand to lose a few pounds. I think you need to
tone your body. I think you'll find that regular resistance training will
help you look the way you want more than losing more weight. Have you
started any of the weight training exercises that people have suggested each
time you visit the newsgroup? http://www.stumptuous.com/cms/index.php If you don't have money for a
gym membership or equipment, click on training then scroll down to the
bottom to Workout Ideas then click on 'No weights? No problem!'

I don't think you should focus on weight loss, but rather on losing a
bit of fat and replacing it with muscle. That would make you appear
more toned and shapely, and you'd drop a clothing size or two. The
way to build muscle is to add weight-bearing exercise. The way to
lose a little fat while doing so is to eat a sensible diet (not
droping calories too low, just cutting out junk and eating healthy
foods) and doing some cardio as well.
So, like it or not, Jenny, you're gonna have to exercise to get the
body you want :-).

Right. And it is important to point out, that you may actually wind up
waying MORE, because muscle is more dense than fat, but still be much
smaller, more athletic and lean looking, etc.

YES. Exercise is key. Almost no one has the ability to achieve an athletic
lean looking body without it. |

That's too low. I am 4'10" and used to weigh 108 before I got pregnant. I
would be scrawny myself at 90.
I saw your picture, and your problem isn't needing to lose more weight.
Weight-training can help reshape your body; I bet you will look thinner at
the same weight. Fat takes up more body volume than muscle that weighs more
but is more compact in size. With your height of 4'11 and a medium frame,
your lowest weight would be 110, but losing weight isn't the issue here.
Getting into shape is.
Did you know that Brad Pitt's BMI of 27.5 is considered overweight? He works
out, and take a look at his picture: http://szinhaz.hu/data/files/forum/268828.gif . Does he "look" out of shape
and about 30 pounds overweight, or does he "look" awesomely fit? The BMI
only checks height and weight but doesn't take into consideration the actual
body mass ratio of bones, muscles and fat; that's why the concept is faulty. http://www.consumerfreedom.com/press...cfm?release=79 re: Will
Smith, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Tom Cruise, etc. You would be surprised
that they are considered by the BMI to be overweight to obese. |

need to lose weight?

You mom told you that you need to lose weight? With a history of an
eating disorder?
I wonder if we are starting to see the problem here.
Yes, moderate exercise is good. Obsessing is bad, in general.

Yes, your view of yourself is skewed. Apparently your mother's view is
skewed too, and she is not being at all helpful in your recovery. Right
now, I believe your recovery is far more important than your weight. Are
you getting help for your disorder?

Your Mum should stop filling your house with high fat food with little
nutritional value whilst apparently making uneducated and harmfull
comments about her daughter. Thats a particularlly disturbing attitude
for a mother to have.
Yes, focus on excercise and eating well, not your mother... |

That website with celebrity BMI's is bogus. According to the website, "The
Center for Consumer Freedom is a nonprofit coalition of restaurants, food
companies, and consumers working together to promote personal responsibility
and protect consumer choices.".
Meaning: they're a lobby group for the food industry that is trying to
ridicule any efforts by the government to address the obesity problems in
this country.
They have no data to back up their claims for celebrity BMI's...their height
and weight figures were gathered from the internet, and you can be sure that
they used the shortest heights, and the highest weights that they could find
posted.
Brad Pitt does not look anywhere near 203 lbs as they claim on their
website, and they list his height as 6', even though some websites say he's
6' 1" or taller.
