| | | What's your next short term goal? Just wondering... does anyone do short term goals for fun and
motivation?
I've got two for this month... one is to hit the 230s by my
birthday... which is gonna be a close, close thing as to whether I
make it or not! Getting sick this winter kind of hampered me on this
one, and the plantar fasciitis flare-up is also a problem.
However, if I don't hit it by my birthday, I suspect I will make it
soon after, and will still be happy!
The other is to be able to do at least four sets of 8 reps at 50
pounds on the vertical chest press machine by the end of April. I'm
not sure *why* I made this a goal, just maybe because I'm turning
50... and currently I am close to that 50 pound mark, I'm doing 48
pounds now and it is a struggle.
And on the none weight related side... my goal is to get all of my
roses pruned back this week and fertilized. They are nasty looking,
with a lot of damaged canes from winter and ugly foliage.

I enter a slightly lower weight in my Fitday "weight" page and give
myself a month or mre to reach it. I've madeup my mind to just aim to
stay put at 140.
I'm a pound above.

Yes and No. Both goals are the same. Eat less and forget about goals. |

I've ordered a "Fat Cyclist.com" jersey: http://www.fatcyclist.com/order/
I ordered it in a size 44-47 chest. It comes in May, and I want to be
able to fit into it. I need to knock another inch or so off my chest.
My short term goals on the bike are to be able to stay on the thing,
not forget to unclip when stopping, and not have parts of my anatomy
go numb on rides.
For a longer range goal, I want to be able to ride at least 25 miles
in a decent time for the MS City to Shore in September.
For the longest term goal, I want to reward myself with a bike tour in
Summer 2008 when I reach my weight goal of 201. |

That's a nice looking jersey!
What type of tour are you thinking about in 2008? I'm doing my first
week long tour this summer -in fact I must have been out of my mind as
I've signed up for two of them

Now that the weather is beginning to feel like spring I've been able
to get in a few bike rides and I've been hitting the weights/treadmill
in the evenings at home.
I've also started packing my lunch for work again as I have a tendency
to overeat when I purchase items in the restaurant at work.

I hear that! I have my feet go nearly totally numb just doing the
recumbent bike for about 15 minutes. Not a pleasant sensation at all.
I tried sitting on one of the bikes they use for the spinning classes
at the gym, as that looked kind of fun to me, UGH! Ok, I know you
don't actually *sit* much in a spinning class, but I couldn't sit on
it for more than a few seconds without extreme discomfort.
I'm kind of hoping that might change as I lose weight. Spinning class
still looks fun, though I don't think I am physically up for it yet.

That sounds like a super reward! I need to think of one for when I
reach goal, but haven't put much thought into it yet. I'm just trying
to take it a pound at a time right now.

To be half marathon ready by the end of May.
To be down to 22% bodyfat by the end of April. |

Yes, I'm SO glad spring is here. Though it means a return to yardwork,
this is not necessarily a bad thing.
I've started making a little extra lunch for George... he's really
liking that, as he finds he is less hungry and less inclined to snack.
And he's lost some weight since I've been doing it too.

I don't suppose I'll ever be able to run much, my ankles are just too
bad, not to mention my knee. But wow, a marathon!
Hubby set a goal a couple months back to walk a marathon distance (in
daily increments) at the gym and he did it, so I was proud! He's done
better since though.
Good goals!

I don't understand, when you eat less you address the real reason you
are obese, overconsumption. Why do you have to remember that you ate too
much to become obese? |

I am participating in a shoulder press competition tomorrow morning, and
my goal is to come home with a gold medal! I already have a silver from
the bench press, and fourth place in the shuttle run. We won't talk
about the broad jump (choke!).
I'm also looking to reduce body fat percentage. I'm concentrating on
heavy weights and interval cardio. I'm not doing much to change the way
I eat, as I don't believe that going lower in calories would help me
achieve my goal--any lower and I'd lose muscle instead of building it...

Thank you.

Yes, the whole thing. Or at least as far east as Philadelphia. I've
seen the Atlantic Ocean before, so there's no reason to pedal to
Maine.
I'm doing my first

Yes, you must be completely nuts. :-) But what does that make me and
my desire to cross the country?
I've learned two things during my weight loss:
1. Set very ambitious goals, and then strive to meet them.
2. The journey begins, and advances, with a single pound or mile. Even
if it's 185 pounds or 3500 miles. |

I'm not sure what a shoulder press is though.
