| | | Night sweats? Ok- is this the start of hot flashes...or do I have something else going on?
For the past week, I can't sleep at night. I'm hot, then cold, then hot,
then cold. Our temperatures are finally seasonally correct...so it is
warmer. Usually it is about 60 degrees at night. I sleep right by the
window, get a good breeze, added the ceiling fan. Now I am stripping down,
and still hot. I wake up soaking wet, uncover, freeze, cover up, wake up
soaking wet, uncover....etc. And this is from a person who doesn't sweat!!!
I feel like I have malaria! But, most people in Iowa aren't exposed to that!
Hot flashes? Or do I need to ask the doctor? Any solutions if it is hot
flashes? I want my sleep back!
Thanks, Barb |

| | | Re: Night sweats? Night Sweats is part of peri-menopause. That was one of the symptoms I did
get. I just made sure my quilt was on the bed and had the fan or AC blow on
me and the quilt was in reach when it got to cold. I didn't get many hot
flashes and they weren't as severe as some...but am obese and have been told
I probably have residual estrogen stored in my fat...which may be the reason
for my spotting 6 years into menopause.

Sounds like good ol' (or bad ol') night sweats.

Sounds like night sweats to me. Now, there are many many ways to try
and deal with this. One of my therapists felt that the body cooling
down at night was a possable trigger for the night sweats. So she had
me buy brand new flannel sheets, flannel pajamas, flannel blankets,
and even an electric blanket. I was to sleep warm and snuggled, which
also included a Teddy Bear.
Yes, I am 63 years old and sleep with my teddy bear because this
progarm seems to work for me. YMMV. I am not aware of ever waking up
from night sweats. I still have some hot flashing during the daytime.
For this I carry a folding fan.

and whilst my ultra-low level of testosterone produces symptoms very
much like those of women with ultra-low levels of estrogen, it may all
be a coincidence. |

I've worked out that (at the moment) night sweats are a clue that my
(irregular) period is about to arrive.

Also, all the excellent advice I have received from The Menobabes,
from their own shared experiences, has been of tremendous help for me
to cope with the aftereffects of my surgery. But, again, this may just
be a coincidence.
And I have no idea if painting my toenails gold has anything to do
with it either. But they look cute that way. |

Whoa, you lucked out in that regard; no trying, in vain, to guess when on
earth the next one would - or would not - show up!

get the symptoms as bad as others...I probably have estrogen stored in my
fat which helped keep the symptom a bit tame
