just ran across this - live under rock & had not previously heard
about it. feeling sentimental rather than cynical. so looking for
someone to enlighten me. is this a fairy tale type thing? is there a
dark side? may just be nothing but my hormones.

Is this Britain's version of American Idol? The two or three
episodes of American Idol that I watched had nothing comparable
to that level of talent, and it looked like quite a few of the
contestants had been picked for their lack of talent (that and
snotty judges put me off the show completely).

But P. Potts was amazing!

It reminded me of Sam Harris on Star Search (??) - more than 10
(20?) years ago. He was a hick-looking guy wearing high-top
sneakers whose voice took great leaps and bounds of fantastic
while singing Over the Rainbow.

Nah, we have our own version of that ("Pop Idol" IIRC).

That blew my mind. This guy was selling car phones???

God, how fantastic that he gets to do what he was born to do, now!

AFAIK, there is no dark side (yet, anyway). He's a nice guy who took a
chance, wowed everyone, and visibly blossomed from it. Definitely a
Cinderella-type story.

There's a movie in the works based on him.
