Default OT: The cats on 16 May 2008 >^..^<

No real change in the situation. Fluffy and Silver do not want to get
along with Pumpkin. I keep up the efforts to encourage them to get
along, such as supervised visits. But sooner or later Fluffy and
Silver turn aggresive and chase Pumpkin up his cat tree to his refuge
on a closet shelf.

To give Pumpkin some quality time with myself, I have moved my prayer
kneeler and reading chair into his bedroom. I still get home from work
about midnight, and go the bed at 2 or 3 AM. Most of that time I am in
the bedroom with Pumpkin. The screen door is closed to prevent Fluffy
and Silver from coming in. After I tire Pumpkin out with Da Bird, I
settle down to devotions, with occasional pettings at his requests.

He seems to be a contented, happy cat. Of course he probably thinks my
prayers, meditations, and contemplation are about HIM. As I keep
reminding my AA friends, the cats are NOT my Higher Power, but THEY
think they are, and want to be treated as such.

Animals are truly both loving and healing influences in our lives.
Getting a bit of cat fur (OK, a lot of cat fur) on one's prayer kneeler
strikes me as completely in harmony with seeking the divine.

Thanks for the update, Harry!

A great line. And there's a lot of truth in it too. One of the pleasures
of sobriety is being able to take proper care of one's companions.

Update on 18 May

Yesterday was the annual City Of Torrance Armed Forces Day parade,
complete with noisy flyovers by jet planes. Despite my best efforts,
Silver dived under the bed at the first flyover, not to come out until
early evening.

I spent the afternoon in Pumpkin's room, doing my readings and other
devotions, with occasional comforting pats for Pumpkin, who mostly
ignored the jets. Fluffy stayed in the living room, a bit distracted,
but not willing to come into Pumpkin's bedroom and tolerate him.
Especially not with me and the ever-handy water pistol.at the ready.

Minor footnote: May 14th was the 6th anniversary of my bilateral
orchiectomy. And I am STILL hot-flashing a few times a day.
