The teeth chattering while the tail's swishing - classic "cat intensely
involved with watching birds" deal. ;-)

Keeping the cats in is also for the birds' safety. I'll never get
over the shock of getting up one morning and finding a small owl, dead
on the living room floor. Our house was unfinished at the time, so
our cat went in and out at will. She's getting old now, reduced to
windowsill hunting.

I love it when their teeth chatter! My cats always look so intent
when they do that!
I don't feel guilty anymore, esp since one of mine hurt her leg badly
enough to need surgery. If she had been outside I might not have found
her. Today, her fur is almost grown back and I feel grateful every
time I hug her.

Like most bachelors, I have to do my own laundry. The hardest problem
can be to persuade the cats to get off the bed and stay off the bed
while I remove the sheets. And again to stay off the bed whilst I am
putting on the clean sheets. |

Which is the only time I actually shut the cat(s) out of the bedroom;
physically remove the getting-in-the-way cat, put her/him in the hall, shut
the door, make the bed, then let him/her back in.

I let my first cat out for a while, but then she became an indoor cat. All
subsequent cats have been indoors-only, mostly because of traffic. But
I'm/they're lucky, in that this house has a side porch which is fully
screened from floor to ceiling. So they can get their fresh air & outdoor
sights out on the porch. In the winter it's for very short periods of
time - too cold (for me) to leave the porch door (it opens from the LR)
open, but in the summer can leave it iopen while I'm at home, & they can
come & go as they please.

supervised - one of my cats got her head caught in one once - scared the
hell out of her.

I actually liked that part. How my changing the bed sheets would attract
my cat. Of course, I had just the one.

Me, too. It is even more entertaining with two. I had one pair that used
to alternate who got "trapped" under the sheet and who got to pounce. The
first would let me put the contour sheet over her, then be pounced by the
other. After a minute or so she would crawl out, and I would put the top
sheet over the second cat. The first would start pouncing. This was
repeated through the cotton blanket and comforter. So what if it took 30
minutes to change the bed? :-)

Absolutely darling!
And here we buy expensive cat toys when all we need is to do housework.
