Default ot - need scabies advice

this parasite thing has been no fun. dermatologist gave us an oral
anti-parasitic drug that we finished our 2nd dose of about of week
ago. because the after effects of infestation are similar, it's been
hard to tell if things were better. but the drug is supposed to be
highly effective & i did the cleaning protocol that was recommended.

i was hiving so bad all over, that i had to do a pred dose to get it
down. just starting to feel like things were better, when both of us
are manifesting symptoms of infestation again.

i made the mistake of looking on the help forums only to find that
this is another area where doctors can't be trusted & where people
have battled this for years, given away their possessions & pets, &
lived like lepers. i know the truth must be in between the doctor's
'no problem' & this other scenario, but i am so whacked already that i
can't straighten my head out.

anyone out there have any advice with this stuff? thanks in advance.

I've never had experience with it, but I sure sympathize. I'd probably
burn everything that wasn't wood or metal.

So sorry, Ellen.

My Mum was a foster carer. One time we got a couple of kids on
"emergency" care who had a rather rash - Mum thought "impetigo" and
was keeping them isolated from the family anyway (own towels, no
hugging, etc). Turned out to be scabies.

The Social Services took ALL our bedding and towels away to be washed
in the hospital machines that use a VERY hot wash (hotter than any
home washing machine). Everyone in the household - whether they
showed signs of infection or not - had to be covered in a horrible
smelling lotion which was left on for 12 hours then washed off in the
shower, then repeated next day.

No re-occurance, no pets were harmed, the kids recovered fine - till
they were returned to their own family.

Occasionally a resident at the nursing home where I work will be admitted
and found to have scabies (or, even scarier, will catch it while out in the
hospital). All employees who have had contact with that resident then have
to follow the same protocol Jette describes above. I can't remember the
name of the lotion, though I've had to use it twice during the course of my
employment. It certainly works.

Holy crap! I had to notify my neighbors if I sprayed that on my trees.

thanks, everyone. holy crap is right. i just picked up the
permethrin. the oral med was ivermectin & was supposed to solve
everything. i have been washing everything in hot water since the
beginning of this ordeal & certainly the symptoms are much less than
at the beginning. dh can't return to work until we are both treated
again. which means a dose tonight & then in another week.

not happy with the choices but doesn't seem like we have many
options. i just want them gone & do not want to be dealing with this
for an extended time period. wish me luck, i suppose. i'm not sure
what else i can do. we have mostly hard surfaces like wood & metal to
begin with because of my allergies.

Good luck, Ellen, the hard surfaces will help. Did anyone tell you to
spray your mattress and upholstery with R and C spray? You can cover
the mattress with a zippered vinyl cover afterward to avoid more
chemical exposure.
