| | | OT: Strange catalogs I'm sure all of us have received catalogs in the mail, without asking,
and wonder, "how did I get on THAT mailing list?"
Today I received the very first issue of BARBIE COLLECTOR, along with
an offer to be one of the first to join the Official Barbie Fan Club.
I think I'll pass on this one.
And what starnge catalogs have YOU received? |

I don't even pay attention to them any more. I get sooo many. If I see
it's a catalog, I almost always recycle it. I did keep one dance catalog
that came recently. The source is one I don't normally order from online.
Daughter does go through them and she would have jumped on the Barbie one
when she was younger. Not sure she would now. She's almost 12.
The weirdest thing I've gotten is fly fishing stuff. Not sure if I've
gotten a catalog from them but I'm always getting coupons and mailings from
a fly fishing place down the street. I have no interest in fishing of any
kind. |

I was just perusing a live stock materials catalogue. I'm pretty sure I
got it because they have a very good deal on filters for the kind of
water circulator I have for my cats. I'm finding the various halters,
udder creams, and hoof repair implements fascinating, however.
They have inexpensive heated water dishes, too, so if the ones I have
break, I could get another from them.

I got one with, er, "fantasy wear." Perfect for a 62-year-old woman who's
had a mastectomy.
Got another one with fancy hunting knives. Who buys these things? Fancy
hunters?

They're addressed to the deceased former owner of my house, but they
still deliver gay male porn catalogs here a couple of times a year.
I mostly get cooking, gardening, decor and furniture stuff, based upon
web site visits and charge card habits, I guess.

no strange ones, just disconcerting - they must know exactly when to
send out the vermont country store catalog. it came for the 1st time
the other day & i realized that i either remember or require
everything within. |

That's one catalog I do like. I just wish they had better prices! |

Yep - they have lots of candies that one could kinda crave; but looking just
at NECCO wafers for ex. (which I can get at a nearby drugstore) they are
*way* over-priced.
I did get a couple of off-the-wall (for me) catalogs lately, but don't even
remember what they were! Just that they were... odd. ;-)

I never liked NECCO wafers. My parents do. I think there are some stores
here that still sell them by the roll. But I could be wrong. |

I think my favorite was one for priests and church adminstrators.
Vestments, choir robes, ornate silver/gold wares. *Pricey* stuff,
much of it beautiful and rather fun to look through.
But seeing the things i see treated with reverence and hushed awe
in church, there in a catalog as mass (no pun intended) produced
items with choices for all budgets, and item numbers,
and shipping options, kind of sheds killer-daylight on the magic.
I can only guess that i got on that list after ordering my dad's
prayer books in bulk for his study group.

"Those who love the law and sausage should not watch either being
made." (Rough quote from von Bismarck). Sounds like that
extends to other areas of life, too.
