| | | Radiation Tattoo Removal Options? When the radiation technician went to put on my tattoos, I asked to
see how the side ones looked before accepting the conspicuous one in
the middle. The side ones were teeny and insignificant, so I said to
go ahead with the middle one.
You guessed it, that middle one turned out much bigger, darker and
uglier. I called the only laser dermatology place in the area, and
they want $265 to remove that thing! Is there any other way to get
rid of this grim reminder?

Well, you are fortunate. I am still stuck with 9 tattoos more than 3 years
after completing treatment, so in this 90+ degree weather I can't even wear
a v-neck shirt without the whole world seeing I'm a breast cancer victim.
My plastic surgeon doesn't remove tattoos. My dermatologist doesn't remove
tattoos. The local "laser spa" doesn't remove tattoos. Even the tattoo
parlor couldn't tell me where to go to have the tattoos removed. Finally I
found a doctor (I suspect he's a quack) who will do it for $1,200. I
really, really want to get rid of these awful tattoos but that's pretty
steep and insurance won't cover it.

No, I'm so sorry but there really isn't. (And that's not a bad price.)
For the tattoo I had removed it was $650 per appointment and took
about 10 appointments. Any cream, or topical application of any kind
of bleach, will not work. ANYONE who says they can remove a tattoo who
isn't a medical specialist CAN'T and will make it worse. Then you end
up back at the laser dermatology clinic and they have to work harder
to fix it, and it costs more. So I'd say go for it.
Best of luck to you, please let me know what you do and how it works.

Eva and Les,
Kevin asked for Dragons, but did not get his wish. Of course his are the
small ones and where no one better ever see them except me.lol
If you can't get the big tatoos removed, why not add to them to make
something pretty or meaningful to you.

I agree, but I'm really, really extensively tattooed. So I'm probably
not very objective. :^)

I never liked them, but they're also against my religion....not that I'm so
religious, but I was raised to believe that God doesn't like them, and it's
kind of ingrained in me. On top of which, my boyfriend doesn't like them
either!

I get that.
I just Googled "Tattoo Removal Omaha" (just picked Omaha out of a hat)
and got quite a few legitimate laser dermatology places. (Also got
some topical junk that I'll tell you right now won't work.) Also
Googled "Tattoo removal clinics" and got a bunch of good stuff.
Here's one good link I found: http://www.tattoohealth.org/content/about_us.asp
It has a "find a facility" search box.
Best of luck to you...

Just out of speculation, suppose you had raised the religious
objection and refused the tatoos. There must be people who do that.
Then what? Are you denied the treatment? Seems to me like a straight
1st amendment freedom of religion type refusal to me, a little more
than just the right to refuse medical treatment. Can't they find an
alternative like removable tatoos. I wouldn't want tatoos. Like you
it's ingrained, in my case from conservative Lutheran.

I was told that I could refuse tattoos, but the two side ones were
misleadingly tiny. Also, they put this giant magic marker X on my
chest, and said I'd have to have that for six weeks if I didn't get
the tattoo. If the middle one had turned out like the first two I
wouldn't care.
I'm in luck, though. I emailed my sister, a radio talk show host in
Salt Lake City with lots of connections. She said she knows a good
dermatologist who will remove that thing free, probably in return for
a little publicity. I just have to wait till I go to Salt Lake.
I'm sure Mormons would want to refuse tattoos, because they believe
your actual body goes to heaven. They aren't supposed to get their
ears pierced or tattoos, anything that defiles your personal temple.
But most Mormon women are meek to some degree, so would end up with
them anyway.

Get some body art to cover it up. A good tattoo artist can make a
totally distracting gorgeous image that blocks out the undesired image
below. You could look at it as rewriting the experience with something
you like.

The first amendment applies to what the government does. The government
is not requiring that she have the radiation treatments.

When I began my radiation treatments, I was so sick that I was as close to
death as I've ever been in my life. I did in fact raise the religious
objection, and the doctor and technicians simply said no, you have to have
them, and before I could put up a fight (which essentially I was too weak to
do anyhow), boom, it was done. If I took this to court it would be my word
against a doctor and three technicians.

That's in fact what most women do, but I have a peculiar attitude about it.
I never call myself a survivor. I believe you can call me a breast cancer
survivor after I die of something else. I didn't survive breast cancer
(thus far) because I was strong, smart, or brave, only because of the way
the dice were thrown. There's no honor in pure dumb luck.
