I haven't heard that before age 50 you need two years without a period to be
fully menopausal. How often does this* blip * occur?
I'm telling her not to jinx herself for the next countdown. Go out and buy a
big CASE of Tampax. That should do the trick.

I've spotted twice post-meno due to hormonal blips. My last period was when
I was 46 1/2. Two & a half years later I spotted (after feeling extremely
premenstrual for a week or two), & then it happened again 2 years after
that. So I was... 49 and then 52 when it happened. Each time I had a T-V
sonogram to check things out. The first time the sono found a thin
post-meno endometrial but also a follicle on my right ovary - which
certainly explained things!, & the second time no findings - just a thin
post-meno endometrium. So... each time down to hormones that hadn't yet
found their even keel.

Yep. ;-) I kept them around for *years*! Still a few floating around in my

Yes, I went through a few panty liners when I had my bad respiratory
thingie over the past month. Stress incontinence, don't you know. If I
was close to a bathroom and felt a coughing fit coming on, I'd do my
best to hold my breath until I could get appropriately situated, because
I knew what would happen when the coughs reached a certain point on the
richter scale.

Good way to put it. ;-) Serious coughing. I've had this URI monster-y
thing for 2 weeks now; when it is going to *go away*!? Arghhh. In some
ways it's better (not as much junk to cough up & voice is more 'there'), but
it's migrated more up to my head (vs. upper chest) & I still feel like crud.
Went in to work for 6+ hours of P-T conferences yesterday, & realized there
was no way I was going to go in to teach today. Have been out for 2 weeks,
except for 2 partial days to do most of my P-T conferences. Thank goodness
for e-mail - re: sending in lesson plans!

I hesitate to say that this past Monday marked one month for me,
although I am considerably better these days than I was in week two of
it. That was after my sinuses got infected. :-( Still hacking,
though, from time to time.

;-D I can just imagine keeping a box of junior size tampons in my desk
drawer for whenever a kid has a nose bleed. Can see him/her walking down
the hall to the Nurse's office with a tampon sticking out from their
nostril... And others' reactions to the sight. <g> And subsequent phone
call I'd get from the nurse, probably laughing too hard to convey her
message... ;-)
This tangentially reminds me of a story another teacher told long ago of her
son when he was little - perhaps 3? While they had company, no less. He
wandered out from the bathroom & into the LR with a tampon stuck in each
ear, the strings hanging down...

I can see why you hesitated to mention that. But it tallies with what
parents who'd had it told me at conferences - that they were a month out
from it & finally feeling pretty okay, but still coughing. One said an
office-mate was out of work for 3 weeks with something of this ilk. Some of
them looked distinctly alarmed (for their own health) when I coughed; I
assured them that I didn't think I was contagious - that it was 2 weeks old
at this point. Nasty, tenacious bugger. I haven't been this congested, &
had a sore throat off & on (instead of just at the beginning of a cold)
since I can't remember when. Wonder how many tissues & cups of tea I've
been through?
I went to say hello to a teacher friend down the hall after my last
conference yesterday - she was whispering w/laryngitis, plus her cheeks
looked bright mottled red (I told her she looked a tad pink; she said she
thought she was too warm - I think she prob. discovered she had a fever when
she got home) - also has a variation of it. And she said another teacher
upstairs was coming down with it... Too friendly - & clingy - of a bug.

Heh... guess what? Took myself back to the doctor today - a sore throat 2+
weeks into an URI - time frame's off!, & this guy thinks I have a... sinus
infection. Gave me a prescription for the *the* _largest_ pills I have ever
seen. I have to smash them in a baggie (he said it was okay to break them)
in order to take them. Also suspected thrush in throat - Nystatin rinse for
that.

That's what I was assuming they'd be; ha - these are 1000 mg each! They
look like something a vet'd use for a large animal practice.

Then maybe you'll shake it faster than I did. I felt like I'd been
given the child's size dose, considering how slowly it made any
significant difference. In the past I remember significant improvement
on day 3 or so, but it took 7 days before I was well enough to return to
work.

Thrush! As if you didn't have enough problems! Eat lots of
yogurt with live cultures, and swish it around in your mouth.
The Augmentin can make the thrush worse, because it will kill off
the bacteria that keep the yeast (that cause thrush) in check.
(Aug. can also kill off beneficial gut bacteria, so the yogurt
should help with that too.)
I hope this knocks it for you!

I'm actually hoping that I do have a sinus infection - so that this
antibiotic will make a difference. If the whole thing's viral after all,
then it's really just a 'wait it out' deal. And my patience is waning...
I've already been out of work for 2 weeks. Feel kind of disconnected & out
of the loop.
Today the doctor said that if this med works, I should start to feel
decent - but not 100% - by Thanksgiving. (And if not, to then see my reg.
doctor, who'll prob. refer me to an ENT.) Arghhh... I had really hoped to
be back in work by this coming Monday... Starting to feel a bit "divorced"
from work, & out of the loop - hope the kids don't feel too bereft! But at
least this coming week is only a 2-day work week; they've been doing the
school calendar so that we have Wed. - Fri. off for T'giving the last
several years.
I was hoping to accumulate a bunch more sick days in the couple of years
before retirement, toward my accumulated unused sick days; but I am
sabotaging myself! Each day I stay home sick, there goes another $75 (minus
taxes) down the future drain...
Sop far, anyone who's had a URI in the last month or so - all of them have
said that it was nasty & took forever to go away, & when it did, left them
with a residual cough. No one seems to have had a normal ol' cold lately.

Thanks - yes, he prescribed the Nystatin rinse to last as long as the
antibiotic (2 weeks), & with 4 doses per day. And I do some yogurt in the
refrigerator, although I haven't craved it much lately. But will try & make
myself eat it. I'm just hoping the yeast infection stays up north...
Hey, at least the med for the pink eye (which was looking mighty yucky!)
worked well - zapped it!
