It takes some time to rub the progesterone cream in at my wrist; I was
wondering if it's a good idea to rotate places to apply it.

Where are other workable areas to apply the cream?

Rotation is a very good idea. Inner arms, inner thighs, lower abdomen
are other good sites.

It now occurs to me that I have misunderstood this discussion. I thought
"transdermal cream" meant the stuff one puts in one's vagina, to relieve
dryness/atrophy. Premarin cream. This is something else?

Yes, it's just absorbed through normal skin directly into the
bloodstream, avoiding the first pass via digestion and the liver.
This way, you can use a much lower dose for the same benefits and avoid
the complications that ensue from the rise in cortisol binding globulin
caused by oral estrogens.

Except the cream referred to is progesterone. What benefits are to be
expected?
