| | | reality check on (in)sanity check just had to stumble into the whines & woes cafe. i'm sitting here
with my travel documents in front of me & my poor suffering head in my
hands. i've got some nasty sinusitis in the making & i am scheduled
to fly to the canadian rockies in a week. with my history of sinus
disease, there's no way that can happen. so i'm getting ready to
start my cancellations.
yeah, i know i can reschedule a trip that i couldn't even afford to
begin with, but this has been such an absolutely crappy year. i've
spent a good part of it sick or trying to get a handle on all these
peri symptoms, while also trying to deal with marriage issues, figure
out employment options, deal with the serious illness of someone close
to me, etc. but maybe this is a sign that i shouldn't do this right
now (or really bad luck - i can't recall the last time i infected at
this time of year).
all relatively minor as things go. but my sinuses aren't the only
things hurting today. guess i'll go howl at the full moon.
thanks for the whining opportunity,

Have I shared my sinus-clearing thingy with you yet? It works like
gangbusters, although you have to try it to believe it.
Press between your eyebrows and release, then push your tongue against
the roof of your mouth and release. Repeat for about 20-60 seconds and
your sinuses will start to drain.
It works by jiggling a bone in the front of your face, although you won't
actually feel the bone move. The first time I tried it I was completely
stuffed up nasally and starting on a headache, and when I tried it I
didn't notice anything. I thought that either I didn't do it right or it
was all a bunch of hooey.
An hour later I realized I was completely unstuffed and my head didn't
feel congested any more.
Anyway, it's free and easy and nontoxic and it just might work for you,
so whaddaya got ta lose?

Awww <<<<Ellen>>>>. I don't know if it works for sinusitis, but I've
knocked out more than one cold with oil of oregano. I hope things work out.

hi karen,
thanks for the support. in most ways i've been feeling too bad
physically to feel too bad emotionally about canceling the trip,
though i admit to still stifling crying while making the calls to
cancel. but illness has that way of realigning one's priorities.
i'm going to be pretty happy if i don't get really ill for weeks - so
that's my current goal. how do you use the oil of oregano?

thanks, chak, for the suggestion. i had read about this before &
tried it with no success. but since i don't have anything to lose,
i've been jiggling my bones for good measure. if it doesn't work for
the sinuses, i may try it in the public realm for those times that i
want to avoid people or end a conversaton.

I've found it easiest to take it straight -- a few drops squirted on the
back of my tongue, followed up with a large gulp of water. I've tried
mixing it with a bit of water, but that just prolonged the burn and a lot
of it ended up sticking to the sides of the glass. I've found that
echinacea can delay the start of a cold, but it will hit eventually. Oil
of oregano actually knocks the cold out for good.
I hope you feel better soon.

OMG what was that? It was downright painful - a grown man should know
better than to make an idiot of himself like that. I watched it all the
way to the end, thinking that some twist at the end would make it better,
but no. (I did have to turn off the sound after about 15 seconds,
though.)

That was Christopher Walken and one of the best music videos out there.

I recognized Walken, but if that's considered a *good* music video, I
think I'm glad I don't watch them.
Just curious - what makes it good?

You didn't find it infectious?
And the dancing's pretty cool. You don't tend to think of Walken
doing that - or rather, folk didn't. Of course if you've seen that
video you know what to expect of him in the movie "Hairspray".

Heh. I remember when that video came out, everybody was, "Wow! How'd
Fatboy Slim get _Christopher_Walken_, of all people, to do his video?
And _dance_! Who knew he could dance??? And...and...he actually does it
well!" The point was that it was totally un-Walken.
It probably helps if you like the song. :-)

Hmm. As the Russians used to say, the amazing thing about a dancing bear
is not how well he dances, but that he dances at all. Lowered
expectations, I guess.

That could be it. I had the sound turned off after the first 15 seconds
or so.

I wasn't overly thrilled by the song, but his dancing was cool. And
unexpected. Which made it even better. ;-) Which, in turn, was underlined
by the format of the video. :-)
