| | | Some Simple Menopause Facts Menopause is puberty in reverse. During puberty the female body is
flooded with hormones that we need in order to function properly. During
menopause our bodies are drained of these hormones because we no longer
need them. This is why HRT has been proven to cause female cancers. It's
like trying to ram a square peg into a round hole and going against the
grain. Excuse my frank language, it's fucking with nature.
Those who did not treat their bodies well when they were younger, are
really going to pay for it later. I am age 45 now. My mother completed
her menopause naturally at age 51 (and a half). When did we become such
a pill-filled cry-baby nation? I'm really starting to believe that the
pharmaceutical companies are creating the pills before they create the
disorders.

Sugar causes hot flashes. Okay. What else?
Since your posts are pretty much rants with no basis in biology or science,

Dr. Oz and The Doctors do not lie. They are the keepers of the facts and
they know it all. They are America's doctors. They are 2 of the most
watched shows on daytime television, and they won't be cancelled anytime

They have issues with our success. I'm sorry that what works for us does
not work for them. A and B's success will always be C and D's failure.

I guess when people have symptoms of something, they want relief. I have
heard that hot flashes can be pretty bad. Not sure. Not sure I have had
them even though every time I complain of being too warm (which isn't
often), my mom says I am having them. |

Really? Never seen them and never heard of the one. Only heard about Dr.
Oz because my friend mentioned him. She said he started to talk about
something that sounded interesting but oversimplified it so much as to be of
little use. So I looked it up online and there it was but again,
oversimplified.

He tries to make it simple for all of the idiots that are out there
today. There seems to be a mental recession as well as an economic one
in America today. The Doctors comes on weekdays at 9:00am (EST) on CBS
where i live, so check your local listings. As least Dr. Oz and The
Doctors know what they are talking about based on research. They are not
self-appointed experts who get off on others pain.

I have a sweet tooth, so consume quite a lot of sugar. But never noticed it
being a trigger for hot flashes.

Probably because, for some women, menopause is the crises from hell.
Some women are unable to lead a productive life until it is over, if
it is ever over.

The "disorders" of menopause are NOT a recent invention, they have
been around since the beginning of the human race. I get the
impression that you are among the many women who do not have a problem
with menoipause. My Mother was like that...breezed through without a
qualm. My Sister, now, reported the HOT FLASHES FROM HELL, mitigated
by HRT. She was able to hold down her job thanks to HRT.
In my own case, as a biological male, my hot flashes were bad enough
to go on Premarin, but not bad enough to stay on it when the studies
came out. My Physician yanked me off Premarin at the first news story. |

It actually makes some sense, hormonally, since high insulin levels
lower adrenal steroid synthesis. Sex hormones are adrenal steroids.

That's a hot-button issue. Where i live, a child cannot go to public

measles?

True. But who ever heard of "restless leg syndrome" before their was a
TV commercial advertising a medication for it?

I'm peri-menopausal and all is well. My health has always been a
top-priority with me. Full-blown menopause (when it happens) can also
depend on heredity. The women on my side of my family have all had a
good "change of life".

Orgasms lower the level of hormones that cause hot-flashes. More orgasms
equals less hot-flashes. My mother and her friends know this for a fact,
and it was written in "The Doctors Book Of Home Remedies" many years
ago.

Daytime television is a wasteland, which I have only been subjected to when
I am home sick in bed and too weak to change the channel. Anyone on daytime
TV is basically an entertainer and a corporate whore, and is not to be

Too many women are taking HRT just because they think they should, and a
few years ago it was proven to cause various female cancers. What did
women do before HRT? How many of us heard about "restless leg syndrome"
before there was a TV commercial promoting a pill for it? Do you often

Nothing was "proven to cause." That's not a term you should use
in describing scientific research - save the "proof" for math.
"Evidence was found" that HT increased the risk of cancer. Which
is reason enough to avoid it except in extreme cases of
disruption of life (IMO).
More than a few people came to the conclusion that HT wasn't a
panacea and carried some serious risks quite a few years before
you discovered this. It bears repeating, but in this newsgroup
I'm afraid you're mostly preaching to the choir.

Restless Leg Syndrome is not new. It was probably first
described in the medical literature (under a different name) in
the 17th century, and it was given the name Restless Leg Syndrome
in the 1940s. http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread1829.html
I don't know if that particular advertised pill helps, but RLS is
real enough. Fatigue is a symptom of many disorders, some
serious. The fact that Big Pharm attempts to take advantage of
these ills and tries to create markets for their pills doesn't
necessarily make the ills less real.
If you want a real pharmaceutical horror story to add to your
arsenal, read about the transformation of a term that described
slight thinning of bones into a disease: osteopenia. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...ryId=121609815

But can Mikayla M. answer questions? That's what inquiring minds want to
know.

OK, here are some. What causes hot flashes, and why are some
women severely affected by them during perimenopause and
menopause, while others are only mildly affected or don't get
them at all?
Please provide citations for your sources of information.

Everyone is different when it comes to how much one can handle, and
orgasms really help. Every time a woman has an orgasm, the level of
hormones that causes them drops. More orgasms equals less hot flashes.

"The Doctors Book Of Home Remedies", and Dr. Lisa Masterson (OB/GYN) on
"The Doctors".

By todays standards it's very hard to believe, that even though it has
always been natural, normal, and healthy, there was once a time in North
America where it was just plain WRONG for women to think about, talk
about, desire, initiate, and enjoy sex just as much (if not more) than
men. It was just a woman's duty as a wife to give her husband sex
whenever, wherever, and however he wanted.
The young girls of today have the late 1960's / early 1970's hippie,
swinger, sex, drugs, rock n' roll, make love not war, free love flower
children to thank for changing things. The realization that women have
the capacity for unlimited sexual response, a desire for sex that is
equal to if not greater than that of men, and the same right to sexual
fulfillment. Not to mention that REAL men of today WANT to satisfy
women. They WANT to leave them as exhausted after sex as they are. His
and her KY products (available at your local CVS) can work wonders.

Really! Well, I was looking for a scientific explanation that
considers some of the variables that contribute to hot flashes.
This comes a little closer to providing one: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/510409 . It even has a list
of citations to original research that I can check.

Indeed we are. (Checking memory ... yes, I think I already knew
that.) What are some of the differences in biochemistry and
physiology that result in differences in severity of hot flashes?

Which specific hormones would those be?

I'm with Ellen on this one - willing to be a test subject. :-)
Of course, this statement reflects a correlation, not
demonstration of cause and effect. Another explanation is that
women who experience frequent hot flashes also experience a
reduction in sexual responsiveness and desire (not necessarily
_because_ of hot flashes, perhaps due to some other common factor
affecting both hot flashes and sexual responsiveness), leading to
less frequent orgasms.

And their various varieties. What about the ones that are just hot (and
within that category: plain hot vs. dripping wet hot), vs. the ones that
have an aura at the beginning of each one? And re: the latter - what
accounts for the different sorts of auras that occur from woman to woman?

Yes, they are. Until you write your own book or get your own talk show,
i will stick with what is currently available. Along with Dr. Oz and
"The Doctors", lets not forget about Oprah Winfrey and Tyra Banks. Oprah
(for all women) and Tyra (for young women) frequently have on expert
M.D. and Ph.D. people, who are the true keepers of the facts. Believe it
or not, there are people out there who know a lot more than the posters
in this news group.

Just because there are some doctors who know their stuff (thank
goodness) doesn't mean that everyone on this news group is ignorant
about menopause. After all, some of us have been here for many years,
getting and giving information.
You might want to try to respect that.
